Who are the WPT announcers?

Television – The year-round WPT television show has broadcast globally in more than 150 countries and territories, and is currently producing its 18th season, which airs on Fox Sports Regional Networks in the United States. In August 2016, the World Poker Tour and Fox Sports announced a five-year deal to see Fox Sports broadcast the WPT through Season 19.

  1. The WPT television show currently features commentary and analysis by Tony Dunst and Vince Van Patten,
  2. Dunst joined the World Poker Tour as host of the WPT Raw Deal during Season 9 after winning the role through an open casting competition.
  3. Following the retirement of Mike Sexton from the WPT commentary booth after 15 years, Dunst was elevated into the role alongside Van Patten.

Joining Dunst and Van Patten for all WPT televised broadcasts is anchor Lynn Gilmartin, Gilmartin’s role focuses on hosting and presenting the show, as well as offering intimate interviews and sideline reporting. Gilmartin assumed the anchor role for Season 12 and remains the current anchor.

Prior to Gilmartin, Shana Hiatt served as the show host and sideline reporter in its first three seasons. Courtney Friel took over the host role for the fourth season, and Sabina Gadecki for the fifth. Layla Kayleigh and Kimberly Lansing began serving as hostesses in Season VI. Poker player and reporter Amanda Leatherman was the host for Season VII while Lansing was on maternity leave.

Lansing returned as the anchor for Season 9 through 11. The first season aired on the Travel Channel on American cable television in the spring of 2003. The show made its network debut on February 1, 2004, on NBC with a special “Battle of Champions” tournament, which aired against CBS coverage of the Super Bowl XXXVIII pre-game show.

  • The Travel Channel aired the first five seasons of the Tour.
  • In April 2007, WPTE announced that the series would move to GSN for its sixth season in the spring of 2008.
  • ‘The first WPT tournament to air on GSN, the Mirage Poker Showdown, debuted on March 24, 2008.
  • In July 2008, WPTE announced that the series would move to Fox Sports Regional Networks for its seventh season.

Following the November 2009 acquisition of the World Poker Tour by PartyGaming plc, the new owners added a second series of televised WPT events under their PartyPoker brand name. This series has, to date, focused on televising the European stops of the WPT.

Mike Sexton continues to provide commentary, though he is partnered with Denmark-based American commentator Jesse May rather than Vince Van Patten. The role of female show host and sideline reporter has been served by a number of personalities, often from the country where the event is held. One exception is Canadian born poker player Kara Scott, who has served as host for a number of the PartyPoker branded telecasts of these European WPT events.

The show’s hosts, Tony Dunst and Vince Van Patten, sit at a booth near the final table, providing commentary and occasionally interacting with the players during the game. However, their specific comments about hole cards are recorded after the tournament takes place because gaming regulations prohibit them from observing a live feed of the “hole card cameras” while on the set.

These cameras, built into the table, allow viewers to see the face-down hole cards dealt to each player. In 2014, the World Poker Tour launched a high roller tournament series, WPT Alpha8, broadcasting on Fox Sports 1, The series originally featured commentary and analysis by Ali Nejad and Olivier Busquet, with Gilmartin serving as anchor.

In later seasons, Vince Van Patten and Tony Dunst replaced Nejad and Busquet, while Lynn Gilmartin continued to serve as anchor. The first three seasons of WPT are available on NTSC DVD, In February 2019, WPT announced a deal with BT Sport to broadcast season XV of WPT.

Beginning with the Lucky Hearts Poker Open, starting Friday at the Seminole Hard Rock Hotel & Casino in Hollywood, FL, every World Poker Tour event will now count towards the WPT® POY race. This includes every Main Tour event, as well as every WPTDeepStacks™ event. “From Florida to Amsterdam, and Australia to Las Vegas, every time a player sits down to play a World Poker Tour branded event, they’re going to be competing to become Player of the Year,” said Adam Pliska, WPT CEO.

“This is yet another pillar in the 20th anniversary celebration for the WPT and the players.” Along with the inclusion of all WPT events, the previous scoring system, which takes into account a player’s finishing position and the total prize pool of the event, has been refined to account for the wider range of tournaments involved.

  1. All players who finish in the money of any WPT event will earn POY points.
  2. A breakdown of the scoring system can be found here,
  3. Players are competing for $30,000 in POY prizes this season.
  4. The eventual winner will receive a $15,000 WPT Passport, which can be used in any WPT event around the world.
  5. The runner-up and third-place finisher will take home a respective $10,000 and $5,000 WPT Passport.

“We wanted to make sure that our new system gives everybody a chance to put in the work and chase down the POY title,” said Matt Savage, WPT Executive Tour Director. “On top of the honor that comes from winning Player of the Year, we wanted to have a worthy prize attached to it.” Previous World Poker Tour Player of the Year winners include Daniel Negreanu (Season III), Anthony Zinno (Season XIII), Brian Altman (Season XVIII), and the recently crowned Season XIX POY, Jake Ferro.

  • Season XX begins Friday with the $3,500 buy-in Lucky Hearts Poker Open Championship Event at Seminole Hard Rock Hotel & Casino in Hollywood, FL.

Who won the WPT 2022?

WPT World Championship $25,700 High Roller Final Table Results –

Place Player Prize
1 Ethan “Rampage” Yau $894,240
2 Kevin Rabichow $518,940
3 Taylor Paur $328,320
4 Elijah Berg $226,260
5 Ben Yu $168,750
6 Aram Oganyan $133,920
7 Tobias Schwecht $109,890
8 Justin Zaki $92,880
9 Justin Saliba $81,000

Justin Saliba saw his deep run end in a ninth-place finish worth $81,000. Saliba lost almost all of his stack triple-barrelling with ace-jack on a draw-heavy board but failing to shake off Rabichow, who made an exception river call with pocket fives. A few hands later, with blinds of 50,000/75,000/75,000a, Saliba was all-in for only 60,000 from early position, and Justin Zak i re-shoved for 575,000.

  • It was suited ace-five for Saliba and ace-nine for Zaki.
  • No fives appeared on the board, and Saliba was gone.
  • Zaki was the next player heading for the cashier’s cage despite helping himself to Saliba’s.
  • Zaki came unstuck when Aram Oganyan open-shoved for 11 big blinds from the button with ace-seven, and Zaki called all-in for five big blinds with ace-try from the big blind.

Zaki failed to connect with the community cards and he bowed out in eighth-place for $92,880. Who’s Who of Poker Shows Up on Day 1a of Historic WPT World Championship The first six-figure score went to Tobias Schwecht, the $109,890 he collected being a career-best for him in the live arena.

Schwecht min-raised to 250,000 from the button before calling all-in when Taylor Paur three-bet jammed for 2,250,000 from the button. Schwecht revealed pocket queens, and Paur ace-jack. An ace on the flop proved enough to reduce the player count by one. The final six became five with the elimination of Oganyan, who had been nursing a short-stack for a while.

Oganyan made a move with king-queen, raising to 475,000 from under the gun before calling off his last remaining 475,000 chips when Elijah Berg shoved for 2,000,000 in the cutoff with pocket tens. An ace-high board failed to come to Oganyan’s rescue, and he headed away from the table to collect a $133,920 prize. Wpt Heads Up Poker Championship Presented By Poker King Ben Yu Ben Yu busted in fifth, a finish good for $168,750. With blinds of 75,000/150,000/150,000, Yu open-shoved from the cutoff with queen-eight of clubs for a mere 275,000 chips. Rabichow called in the small blind with jack-nine, and Paur came along for the ride in the big blind with five-four.

Both active players checked the flop, but Paur fired on the turn when he improved to two pair, which folded out Rabichow. Yu was drawing to a chop on the river, but ultimately missed and busted from the $25,700 High Roller event. Things didn’t look good for Yau during four-handed play because he was propping up the rest of the players at the bottom of the chip counts.

Yau looked down at nine-eight of diamonds and decided to move all-in for 1,975,000 from the button, essentially eight big blinds. Matters looked worse when Berg re-shoved with ace-queen. However, Yau flopped a flush draw and an open-ended straight draw.

  1. A three of diamonds gave Yau a flush, but Berg held the ace of diamonds so the hand was not yet over.
  2. Another three on the river doubled Yau and left Berg nursing a six big blind stack.
  3. Berg recovered a little but then crashed out to a coinflip with Rabichow.
  4. Rabichow min-raised to 500,000 and called Berg’s 2,475,000 shove.

Berg showed ace-ten of clubs, Rabichow pocket sevens, and those sevens held on a board void of drama. Berg busted and banked $226,260 for his efforts. Wpt Heads Up Poker Championship Presented By Poker King Taylor Paur Three-handed play lasted 20 minutes, ending with Paur reeling in a $328,320 score. Pau completed the small blind with ace-nine of clubs, Yau took the bait and raised all-in for 9,900,000 with jack-eight of clubs. Paur called off his 6,100,000 stack and looked set for a massive double.

  • However, Yau, sporting a luck box hoodie, managed to win the hand despite a club flush draw landing on the flop.
  • Yau spiked a jack on the turn, which proved enough to send Paur to the showers and the tournament into the heads-up stage.
  • Yau held a substantial three-to-one chip lead going into heads-up, but Rabichow is a phenomenal heads-up player, so the contest was far from over.

Half hour later, the final hand took place and Yau had completed his amazing comeback. Rabichow completed the small blind during the 150,000/300,000/300,000a level, Yau shoved for 14,000,000, and Rabichow called off his 7,325,000 stack. Rabichow revealed queen-jack of spades, and Yau the dominating king-jack of hearts.

The nine-high flop gave Rabichow outs to a gutshot straight, with the ace of spades on the turn adding outs to a flush for the all-in player. After burning a card, the dealer placed the four of diamonds on the river, busting Rabichow in second-place for $518,940, and leaving a delighted Yau to scoop an $894,240 top prize and the title of champion.

Giving everyone who bought action on @StakeKings on the first bullet a full refund + 2x. LFG https://t.co/RXO83jmVbF — Rampage (@rampagepoker) Yau was obviously in a generous mood after his impressive victory because he has promised to refund everyone that bought a piece of his first bullet’s action on the staking site StakeKings.

Do WPT players play with their own money?

Are Poker Tournaments Played With Real Money? Poker tournaments can be very confusing for those new to the game. Although they’re probably the most popular format out there, new poker fans frequently don’t understand how they work and one very common question they have is: “are poker tournaments played with real money?” It’s not hard to understand where the confusion comes from as players in big tournaments will often have millions in chips in front of them.

  1. So if you are wondering are poker tournaments played with real money the simplest and the most straightforward answer is: Poker tournaments are not played with real money.
  2. When signing up to a tournament, a fixed sum of money is exchanged for chips that can be used to play the game.
  3. A player is eliminated from a tournament if they run out of chips and a real-money prize is only awarded if they place within the prize pool.

In poker tournaments, the prize money is created from all the cash paid by the participants and is later distributed to those who perform the best. Tournament chips have no monetary value themselves and are simply used to “keep score”. Once you are out of chips, you’re out of the tournament. Has a woman ever won a WPT tournament?

Montreal Cash Game Tops 380-Entry Field To Win The 2017 WPT Playground Main Event –

Wpt Heads Up Poker Championship Presented By Poker King On June 1st, 2002 Gus Hansen became the first ever World Poker Tour main event champion when he took down the inaugural Five Diamond World Poker Classic. In the nearly 15 years that have followed no female player had ever won an open WPT main event title.

That all changed when Canadian cash game pro Ema Zajmovic emerged victorious from a field of 380 entries to capture the 2017 WPT Playground $3,500 CAD no-limit hold’em main event title. “Honestly, I am really happy that I proved women can do it. The funniest and nicest part of this experience was all the women who came and were so supportive of me.

It was amazing,” Zajmovic told World Poker Tour reporters after it was all over. “When I started playing poker, there was so much competition between girls. It was hard to be good and be supportive of each other. Now it has evolved so much and it is nice to see I had support from older women, younger women.” For the win Zajmovic added her name not only to the history books but also to the WPT champions cup.

  • She was also awarded a championship belt from the Playground Poker Club, the top prize of $261,000 CAD ($200,769 USD ) and 900 Card Player Player of the Year points.
  • As a result of the win Zajmovic was catapulted into 27th place on the POY leaderboard, which is brought to you in 2017 by Commerce Hotel & Casino.

Zajmovic finished fifth in the WPT Playground Poker Fall Classic that was eventually won by longtime WPT commentator and Poker Hall of Famer Mike Sexton last November. Sexton had some words of praise for the Montreal native. “I have the greatest respect for her.

This is no fluke, in my opinion. We’re gonna be seeing a lot more of her in the future. She’s that good,” Sexton told WPT reporters. Zajmovic came into the final day of this tournament as the chip leader with ten players remaining. By the time the official WPT six-handed final table was set she had increased her chip count but had fallen behind Tam Ho on the leaderboard.

Zajmovic was able to regain the chip lead during five handed play when she flopped a set holding the 10 10 on a 10 3 2 board. She got all on against 2014 WPT Seminole Hard Rock Poker Showdown champion Eric Afriat’s pocket aces after a 7 turn and secured a huge double up. Shortly afterward she knocked out Mekhail Mekhail in fifth place with her pocket kings holding up against his A J Zajmovic sent Tam Ho to the rail in fourth place and then stacked Afriat’s last big blind after he was left crippled in a massive pot against Jean_Francois Bouchard. With that Zajmovic set up a heads-up showdown with Bouchard, who would begin with a 3-to-2 chip advantage. Q and Bouchard the A 9, The board ran out K 10 7 Q 5 to give Zajmovic two pair and the pot. Bouchard was eliminated in second place, earning $169,270 CAD ($130,208 USD ) for his deep run. While Ema Zajmovic is the first ever female player to win an open field WPT main event, she is not the first ever female WPT event winner.

Place Player Earnings ( USD ) POY Points
1 Ema Zajmovic $200,769 900
2 Jean-Francois Bouchard $130,208 750
3 Eric Afriat $83,608 600
