How do I get a valid coupon code?

Nine tricks for getting the most out of online coupon codes With more consumers shopping online, there’s a proliferation of discount codes (such as SAVE20, 25OFF, FREESHIP) enticing them to buy. The frustration: You fill your cart, prepare to check out, apply the code and — arghh — no savings.

  • On average, coupon/promo codes work only about a third of the time, says Walt Roloson, co-founder of Wikibuy (owned by Capital One), a popular online shopping browser extension that finds and applies coupon codes during checkout.
  • Among the most common reasons a code doesn’t work — it’s expired, there are exclusions, it’s non-transferrable and, my favorite, just because it doesn’t.

Terri Lynn always searches for a promo code before completing any online purchase. “It’s part of my DNA. I’m not obsessed, it’s just something I do as part of my shopping routine,” says the media relations consultant in Naples, Fla. Lynn is such a fan of codes that if she sees something she likes in a department store, she’ll make a note of it, go home to her computer and search for a coupon code.

“In the course of a year, I’ve saved thousands, and that’s not shopping excessively.” Austin Varley rarely makes it into department stores. The self-described “huge online shopper” buys everything, including groceries, through his computer or smartphone. “I have limited time in my day to get things done.

Online shopping saves me valuable time, and coupon codes save me even more money,” says Varley, owner of a Scottsdale, Ariz., advertising agency. Even if you’ve been burned before by a bad code, you may want to try again. Here’s how to save as much as you can: Determine whether a retailer uses codes.

Says Lynn, “When I go to check out, if it shows a box asking for a promo code, 99 percent of the time that means there’s a coupon out there. I’m going to find it.” Use a trusted source. Sure, you can search for “retailer name + promo code,” but you’ll probably get hundreds of results. The better path is to check websites such as,, and,

These sites work with thousands of retailers and brands, as well as user submissions, to aggregate sales and codes. At RetailMeNot, all codes are tested and verified before being published. In addition, the site solicits input from users who can indicate a thumbs up or thumbs down to rate a code’s usability, making it easy for you to see how often the code works.

Other code-centric websites operate in a similar fashion. For example, Slickdeals puts a green check mark next to a verified code. Install a browser extension. Among the most popular are and, They automate the process. For instance, when you get to the checkout of an online store, you click on the Wikibuy icon and it tries every available promo code in a few seconds, selects the offer with the most savings and applies it.

While there are no guarantees that a working code will be available, these shopping tools quickly not only find codes, but also perform the tedious task of copying and pasting them one at a time. One caveat with these browser extensions: They track a copious amount of your personal information, so be sure to read the fine print before installing.

Play hard to get. If you can’t find a code, one of Varley’s favorite strategies is to choose your items, fill your virtual shopping cart and, at checkout, “abandon” it, though bookmark the cart’s URL because you may need it later. “If you leave, a majority of companies will follow you across the Internet with ads giving you a discount off what you had in your cart.

It’s called a retargeting ad and used all the time in e-commerce space,” he says. Once you have the code, simply click on the saved URL and apply it. With some stores, you may also get an email urging you to complete the transaction with a discount code as an incentive.

Set up a special email account. While joining loyalty programs can reap rewards, you are also likely to be bombarded with emails every day. To keep your inbox clear, create an account such as mynamecoupons@, suggests Amy Chang, lifestyle savings expert at Slickdeals. Understand why codes don’t work. RetailMeNot’s Sara Skirboll says it all comes down to the fine print.

A code may have expired, may not be applicable to specific brands, may not be transferrable or may only be able to be used once. It’s also possible your purchase didn’t fulfill the requirements of the code, such as spending a certain amount. Consider the source: Did the code come directly from the business or did a friend of a friend pass it along? Most people who share codes aren’t being malicious; they just don’t realize that they received a unique promo code.

Loyalty pays. If you are a big fan of a specific retailer, restaurant or brand (even local ones), sign up for its loyalty program, follow it on social media or download its app. Not only are you likely to receive promo codes, but you’ll also probably receive a nice bonus code on your first purchase just for signing up.

Go old school. I’m seeing more companies put online coupon codes in newspapers and magazines, as well as those catalogues and monthly mailers you receive via the U.S. Postal Service. Bottom line: Don’t toss those Valpaks, Money Mailers or similar “junk” mail before giving it a quick look-see for promo codes.

Take your time, Every retailer has its own strategy, be it monthly or quarterly, to cycle through coupons, says Roloson. That’s why it pays to join loyalty programs and to keep any email codes you receive, even if you don’t plan a purchase at the time of receipt. “A big part of the strategy is checking your email to see if a code is still available and/or is coming soon, based on past history.” Shopping experts add that it pays to be patient and to find a code or deal before buying.

Says Lynn: “Never be embarrassed. Never be ashamed of wanting to save money on a purchase. Never feel you are taking advantage of the discounts that are waiting for you to discover. Shopping online is very competitive, and merchants are striving to get your business by making tempting offers available to you.” : Nine tricks for getting the most out of online coupon codes

Where are the best cash games during WSOP?

Where Should I Play Cash Games During the WSOP? – You are spoiled for choice when it comes to playing cash games during the WSOP. As mentioned, poker rooms around Vegas are brimming with players during what is one of the busiest times of the year. That said, a number of Las Vegas poker rooms closed during the worst of the COVID-19 pandemic and not all have reopened.

Expect the WSOP to host a wide selection of cash games at its new home, Bally’s, The Bally’s poker room is on the smaller side but the WSOP is now spread between Bally’s and the neighboring Paris. It would be extremely surprising if the WSOP does not utilize some of the convention room space at these venues to run cash games around the clock.

The Venetian, Bellagio, and Wynn on the Las Vegas Strip have busy card rooms. These rooms also attract more than their fair share of tourists, often tourists with deep pockets. It is worthwhile checking out the Poker Atlas app which lists all the cash games currently running, including, in most cases, the length of the waiting lists at each Vegas room.

Do WSOP winners pay taxes?

When it comes to the WSOP winning and taxes, there are basically three ways players get taxed: –

US residents are taxed at 24 percent on any winnings exceeding $5,000. This is the federal tax, and it is withheld automatically, while winners still have an obligation to report and pay the state tax on their own.If you’re from a country that has a tax agreement with the US, you’ll receive your winnings in full and will need to pay whatever the tax is in your country (be it 0 percent, 50 percent, or anything in between). If you’re from any other country, the WSOP will keep 30 percent on all winnings above $5,000 on the spot.

As you can see, this can be a rather complicated situation, especially for the non-US players. The list of countries included in the tax treaty isn’t that long, so many players find themselves in a situation where they simply have to give up 30 percent of their winnings.

The United KingdomCanada (but only for those who are not professional gamblers)Luxembourg

Not a very long list for sure, and this isn’t very helpful information if you happen to be from one of many other countries that require poker players to pay taxes on their winnings. So if you strike gold in the Main Event and win a huge amount of $10+ million, will you really have to give up 30 percent or more, or is there still some hope?

What is the buy in for WSOP 2022?

Poker’s Flagship Event Moving to the Strip at Bally’s and Paris Las Vegas May 31 – July 20 – LAS VEGAS (February 23, 2022) – The 53rd World Series of Poker® (WSOP®) – the richest, most prestigious and longest-running poker series – today announced the daily event schedule for 2022.

Following a successful 17-year run at the Rio All-Suite Hotel & Casino, the WSOP moves to the Las Vegas Strip for the very first time at Bally’s, the future Horseshoe, and Paris Las Vegas Hotel & Casino, and will feature the WSOP’s inaugural Master of Ceremonies, Vince Vaughn. The move to the Strip builds upon the legacy for Caesars Entertainment’s World Series of Poker, as the first-ever tournament was played at Las Vegas’ original Horseshoe in 1970.

Doors open on Tuesday, May 31 with exciting action through the event’s conclusion on Wednesday, July 20. “This year is particularly historic for the WSOP with its move to the heart of the Las Vegas Strip and debut in the best facilities we’ve ever had,” said Ty Stewart, the WSOP’s Executive Director residing over his 17th WSOP.

“We’re ready to welcome players from all over the world to our housewarming party at Bally’s, soon-to-be Horseshoe, and Paris. The schedule is jam-packed with first-class events and we expect this to be the biggest and most anticipated WSOP yet.” WSOP will again feature the much-anticipated $10,000 No-Limit Hold’em World Championship, also known as the “Main Event”, which in 2021 hosted 6,650 entrants from around the world despite taking place during a pandemic.

This year’s Main Event is back to its traditional time frame around the July 4 holiday, beginning on Sunday, July 3. The legendary deep-stack tournament will continue play through the Final Table on Friday, July 15 and Saturday, July 16. The WSOP’s new home will include all convention space at both Paris Las Vegas and Bally’s.

  • This will create the largest tournament capacity in the event’s history with over 200,000 square feet and 600 poker tables.
  • The 2022 WSOP will host a wide variety of tournaments ranging in price from $400 to $250,000.
  • The main cage will be placed at Paris Las Vegas while the TV set staging will be in the Bally’s Event Center as the two buildings are connected and share a parking garage.

This year’s tournament will also feature a $5,000,000 guaranteed prize pool WSOP opening weekend dubbed “The Housewarming”, featuring a $500 buy-in. This popular price point for the opening weekend has generated some of the largest field sizes in the history of poker.

Last year’s “Reunion” event generated a whopping 12,973 entrants and organizers are expecting an even larger field as the event returns to its traditional summer schedule. WSOP will work with broadcast partner CBS Sports for a second season of coverage with daily streaming on PokerGo. Produced exclusively by Poker Central, there will be 18 different bracelet events to be televised with a minimum of 15 hours of coverage for the 2022 Main Event.

When booking early, entrants of the WSOP bracelet events can enjoy reduced hotel room rates at Bally’s and Paris, as well as all Caesars Entertainment resorts in Las Vegas by using the special advanced booking code “WSOP22”. Rates are based on availability and are subject to change.
