There is a new tab on your spellbook between General and your talent specialization, simply titled “Hunter”. These are abilities that are now shared by all Hunters, regardless of what specialization they are in.New Hunters will not begin in a default spec (Beast Mastery). Until they are allowed to choose a spec at level 10, their abilities are drawn from the general Hunter abilities available to all specializations.Experienced Hunters will notice some talents have been reworked or rearranged, and may require re-acquiring some talents.AoE (Area of Effect) caps are being introduced in the Shadowlands pre-patch, which places a limit on how many targets the ability can hit at once. This affects a couple of Hunter abilities. Beast Cleave (Beast Mastery) – capped to 5 targets Multi-Shot (Beast Mastery, Marksmanship) – capped to 5 targets Barrage (Beast Mastery, Marksmanship) – capped to 8 targets Explosive Shot (Marksmanship) – capped to 6 targets Carve / Butchery (Survival) – capped to 5 targetsAny AOE Abilities not listed above remain the same as they were cap-wise before the Shadowlands pre-patch.

Hunter’s Mark is returned to all Hunter specializations as a baseline ability!For a total beginner to the class, although each specialization has strengths and weaknesses, we recommend Beast Mastery as the best Hunter leveling spec. Beast Mastery is one of the strongest solo specializations in the game, with a stronger arsenal of pets available and huge utility both from talents to learned abilities, which leads to a much easier leveling experience than most classes.

  1. Many players have chosen Marksmanship as their choice of best Hunter leveling spec.
  2. Marksmanship does not rely on pets for their damage nearly as much as Beast Mastery, but it can still dispatch of enemies really quickly with a barrage of lethal shots.
  3. However, you will need to be a Lone Wolf and not use any pets to get the maximum out of your Marksmanship Hunter.

If you’re looking for something completely different when leveling your Hunter, Survival is an interesting talent choice for leveling! Unlike Beast Mastery and Marksmanship, Survival is a melee DPS specialization, using close combat abilities and bombs, as well as coordinated assaults with their pet, to defeat enemies.

  • Before level 10 you are just a Hunter with a smattering of Hunter abilities.
  • When you reach level 10 you get to pick a specialization, Beast Mastery, Marksmanship or Survival.
  • All three Hunter specs are viable for leveling so if you are coming in with a preference that is just fine.At level 10 you will select a specialization.

You can swap between specializations by opening up the Specialization & Talents tab (or pressing N to open it quickly), choosing the specialization you like, and clicking the Activate button. There is no cost to swapping!Choosing your race can be an arduous task, as it defines our character’s appearance and is an expensive trait to change.

Default Races are races that are immediately available to be played when you start your WoW account. Allied Races are races that are locked behind certain requirements that need to be met before you can create characters belonging to that race.

Each race has different racial abilities and spells, but no races offer an immediate advantage when compared to others, so you can create your Hunter to be whatever race suits your aesthetic best! In this section of the guide, we recommend talent selections for leveling in Shadowlands as a Hunter. Please keep in mind that the selections we list below are merely suggestions, and if you want, you can select different talents that can better suit your gameplay style.

Level 15 Talents: Dire Beast is a strong, low cooldown skill that grants you a little bit more of a burst when leveling, and our recommended talent pick for this row. Killer Instinct is not that bad of a talent option, but with how fast normal mobs die during leveling, you may not see a whole lot of damage increases from Kill Command, Animal Companion is a fun talent option if you like more beasts, but it won’t add as much to your damage as the other talents from this row.

Level 25 Talents:

Scent of Blood is the best talent pick for leveling, as it rewards you for using Bestial Wrath often by granting it a bit more of burst via granting you two free charges of Barbed Shot, As Bestial Wrath has a very low cooldown as it is and using Barbed Shot reduces that cooldown even further, it is a very strong talent. One with the Pack is not that bad of a talent pick, but as Wild Call relies on critical strikes to even proc, it is not that reliable for leveling due to you not being able to stack a lot of Critical Strike rating. Chimaera Shot is an interesting talent if you plan on doing a lot of dungeons, but rather weak on a solo leveling build.

Level 30 Talents:

Trailblazer is a very simple and strong talent that gives you benefits almost immediately while questing. Natural Mending is not a bad talent choice if you feel like you need to use Exhilaration often, but quickly becomes useless the better you become at managing your pet. Camouflage is a niche talent that has its uses but the cooldown is rather long for this talent to be a reliable one. This becomes worse as Camouflage’s cooldown only starts after you leave stealth.

Level 35 Talents:

A Murder of Crows is a strong execute-style talent that has its cooldown reset every time a mob dies while afflicted by it, so it is a reliable tool to deal more damage while leveling. Spitting Cobra isn’t that great of a talent, as if you plan your Focus usage properly during Bestial Wrath, you won’t be casting enough Cobra Shot s to benefit from this talent. Thrill of the Hunt can be an interesting talent choice if you manage to keep it fully stacked at all times, but you will likely have a hard time to do so during leveling, as your low innate Critical Strike chance means you will not proc Wild Call very often.

Level 40 Talents: Level 45 Talents:

Stomp is a very simple yet effective talent, granting you free damage from your pet each time you use Barbed Shot, It is especially strong against multiple mobs. Barrage is not a bad talent, but it’s incredibly large area of effect means you are at risk of pulling mobs by accident, becoming a more prevalent issue in dungeons. Stampede is a fun talent to use, but its long cooldown and low duration means it won’t deal as much damage as the other talents in this row.

Level 50 Talents:

Aspect of the Beast directly increases your pet’s damage dealt and the effectiveness of their pet family skills. It is a very passive talent but considering your pet is a significant portion of your damage, this talent is very strong. Killer Cobra is a very strong burst talent that can be taken without too much issue if you feel like you need the added burst, but Aspect of the Beast will grant you more damage whenever you are not using Bestial Wrath, Bloodshed can be a good talent if you are doing dungeons often, but in solo leveling, where your pet is tanking damage for you, the increased damage taken may prove troublesome.

The talent selection below will focus on maximizing the Marksmanship Hunter’s burst potential, so they are able to level without using pets a bit more easily.

Level 15 Talents: Master Marksman is a great talent choice that adds even more oomph to your Critical Strikes. Serpent Sting is not that great as a leveling talent, as mobs will often die far before the periodic effect has had any chance of dealing any significant amount of damage. A Murder of Crows can be an interesting execute talent for Marksmanship, but suffers from similar issues as Serpent Sting – Although the cooldown does reset if enemies die with it, mobs will often die before Murder of Crows has had a chance to deal significant damage.

Level 25 Talents:

Explosive Shot is a great talent that grants you some burst and AOE damage fairly early on for a Marksmanship Hunter. Careful Aim is an interesting talent that will increase the initial burst potential of Aimed Shot, but will likely only trigger once per mob. Barrage is not a bad talent, but it’s incredibly large area of effect means you are at risk of pulling mobs by accident, becoming a more prevalent issue in dungeons.

Level 30 Talents:

Trailblazer is a very simple and strong talent that gives you benefits almost immediately while questing. Natural Mending is not a bad talent choice if you feel like you need to use Exhilaration often, but quickly becomes useless the better you become at managing your pet. Camouflage is a niche talent that has its uses but the cooldown is rather long for this talent to be a reliable one. This becomes worse as Camouflage’s cooldown only starts after you leave stealth.

Level 35 Talents:

Chimaera Shot is a very strong talent that replaces Arcane Shot with an immediate cleave ability. Stronger than the Beast Mastery version since it can be spammed rather than used on a cooldown. Steady Focus is not that great of a talent to use, as using Steady Shot twice in a row runs you at risk of overcapping your Focus, and the Haste increase will not be as powerful than an Arcane Shot or Aimed Shot, Streamline is not a bad talent choice, but Chimaera Shot will provide you with more damage in the long run.

Level 40 Talents: Level 45 Talents:

Double Tap is the strongest talent in this row by far, at it instantly increases your burst potential with both Aimed Shot and Rapid Fire, Lethal Shots is not that great of a talent, as the cooldown of Rapid Fire is already very low at 20 seconds, and the chance isn’t reliable enough to make this talent worth picking. Deadeye can be an interesting talent choice if you’re constantly engaging with multiple mobs, but it will take some finesse to properly use this talent, as you usually won’t need more than one Kill Shot to finish off a mob.

Level 50 Talents:

Volley is an incredibly strong AOE talent option, allowing you to deal much more damage thanks to the permanent Trick Shots effect without needing to rely on using Multi-Shot, Calling the Shots is not a bad talent pick if you feel like you need the burst damage increase from Trueshot more often, but won’t offer as much of a benefit if you aren’t using Trueshot often. Lock and Load is a very strong talent when it procs, but the proc rate for this talent is fairly low and not reliable.

The talent selection below will focus on increasing the kill speed of Survival Hunters, as well as improving their main ability cooldown, Wildfire Bomb,

Level 15 Talents: Terms of Engagement is the strongest pick in this row by far, as it greatly increases your killing speed by both granting a damage component and constant cooldown resets for Harpoon, Viper’s Venom is not that terrible of a talent choice, but a good portion of the damage increase is likely to be wasted at all times, as Serpent Sting takes 12 seconds to deal its full damage. Alpha Predator is a simple talent that can be a nice pick if you need more damage, but you will likely benefit more from the increased engage speed from Terms of Engagement.

Level 25 Talents:

Guerrilla Tactics is a very simple talent that greatly improves the potential of your Wildfire Bomb by granting an extra charge and double damage on the instant portion of the ability. Hydra’s Bite is a weak talent choice, once again, because of the periodic damage portion of Serpent Sting taking some time to deal its full damage. Not a terrible pick for AOE, though. Butchery is also not a terrible AOE pick, as it deals more damage than the ability it replaces, Carve,

Level 30 Talents:

Trailblazer is a very simple and strong talent that gives you benefits almost immediately while questing. Natural Mending is not a bad talent choice if you feel like you need to use Exhilaration often, but quickly becomes useless the better you become at managing your pet. Camouflage is a niche talent that has its uses but the cooldown is rather long for this talent to be a reliable one. This becomes worse as Camouflage’s cooldown only starts after you leave stealth.

Level 35 Talents:

A Murder of Crows is a strong execute-style talent that has its cooldown reset every time a mob dies while afflicted by it, so it is a reliable tool to deal more damage while leveling. Bloodseeker is a rather weak talent choice, as unless you manage to proc a lot of extra Kill Command s and use them quickly on multiple different mobs, you will not get a lot of benefit from this talent. Steel Trap is a rather weak talent due to the periodic damage effect taking so long to deal its full damage, but the added immobilization effect can be good for leveling.

Level 40 Talents: Level 45 Talents:

Flanking Strike is a strong talent that grants you and your pet a quick engage ability that generates extra Focus over time. Tip of the Spear is not that great of a talent choice, as you will rarely be able to stack it to the maximum amount due to the nature of Survival’s version of Kill Command, Mongoose Bite can be an interesting talent choice, but a bit harder to use than Raptor Strike, as you cannot use Mongoose Bite multiple times in a row to stack its damage increasing effect.

Level 50 Talents:

Wildfire Infusion is a very strong talent that adds random effects to your Wildfire Bomb, All effects are strong and will likely not require any extra upkeep to take full advantage of them! Birds of Prey can be strong if you use Coordinated Assault often, but Wildfire Infusion will grant more benefits when not using Coordinated Assault. Chakrams is not a bad talent, but the pathing from Chakrams makes this talent a bit difficult to use.

Although all three of the Hunter specializations focus on dealing damage in Shadowlands, they all have different playstyles. In this section of the guide, we go over basic rotations for all three Hunter specializations.Optimal Beast Mastery Hunter Ability Use While Leveling You will want to start your fights by sending your pets onto the target and then spending your full Focus on Kill Command on cooldown and Arcane Shot if Kill Command is not available to use.

  1. You can generate Focus by using Barbed Shot on cooldown and Cobra Shot as a filler spell, but be careful to not overcap on Focus – Don’t waste Focus generation! Elite Mobs: Make sure to keep your pet healed at all times with Mend Pet to ensure you have a tank for elite mobs.
  2. Bestial Wrath is a burst cooldown on a very low cooldown on a Hunter, and Aspect of the Wild is also a very strong offensive cooldown.

You can use your CCs like Intimidation to temporarily stun the elite or even slow them down with Concussive Shot and Tar Trap, If things are starting to go south, you can always completely disengage from combat by dismissing your pet and using Feign Death at a safe distance to completely drop combat.

  • Lots of small mobs: Early on, Beast Mastery Hunters do not have a lot of ways to deal damage to multiple mobs at the same time, so it is recommended to not engage with too many at a time.
  • Once you learn Beast Cleave, this becomes a lot easier – Make sure all mobs are near your pet and keep Beast Cleave up with Multi-Shot to kill them! Dungeons: Make sure to help your team by stunning as many mobs as you can with Intimidation, interrupting mobs with Counter Shot, or using traps like Tar Trap to slow them down.

You are also able to help the tank with keeping threat on mobs by using Misdirection on him. Optimal Marksmanship Hunter Ability Use While Leveling You will want to start combat by using Aimed Shot to engage the mob with and dealing a good portion of damage.

You will continue wanting to use Aimed Shot whenever it’s out of cooldown, weave some Arcane Shot s to spend Focus when Aimed Shot is on cooldown, and use Steady Shot whenever you need more Focus. Be careful to not overcap on Focus – Don’t waste Focus generation! Elite Mobs: Although Lone Wolf is a nice damage increase, you will want to have your pet out against Elite mobs so you have a tank against them.

Make sure to keep your pet healed at all times with Mend Pet, You will want to use your offensive cooldowns like Trueshot and Rapid Fire as often as possible to burst the mob down, and you can kite them with Concussive Shot and Tar Trap, If things are starting to go south, you can always completely disengage from combat by dismissing your pet and using Feign Death at a safe distance to completely drop combat.

Lots of small mobs: Initially, you won’t be able to deal with small mobs properly, but things start getting easier once you learn Rapid Fire, and become a lot better with Multi-Shot – Just use these as often as you can to kill mobs! Tar Trap and Disengage are very helpful here to help you kite mobs as you kill them.

Dungeons: Make sure to help your team by interrupting mobs with Counter Shot, or using traps like Tar Trap to slow them down. You are also able to help the tank with keeping threat on mobs by using Misdirection on him. Optimal Survival Hunter Ability Use While Leveling You want to start the fight by sending your pet onto the target and spending your full focus on Raptor Strike and deal periodic damage onto mobs with Serpent Sting,

  1. Use Wildfire Bomb whenever it’s available and Flanker’s Advantage when you need Focus.
  2. Do not overcap Focus! Elite Mobs: Make sure to keep your pet healed at all times with Mend Pet to ensure you have a tank for elite mobs.
  3. Coordinated Assault is a very effective burst cooldown ability, and you can also choose to keep your distance for a few seconds with Aspect of the Eagle,

You can use your CCs like Intimidation to temporarily stun the elite or even slow them down with Wing Clip and Tar Trap, If things are starting to go south, you can always completely disengage from combat by dismissing your pet and using Feign Death at a safe distance to completely drop combat.

Lots of small mobs: Survival Hunters don’t have much in the way of dealing AOE damage until they learn Wildfire Bomb, which should be used on cooldown. Once you learn Carve, you can spam it whenever you have enough Focus to lower the cooldown on Wildfire Bomb and quickly kill small mobs. Dungeons: Make sure to help your team by stunning as many mobs as you can with Intimidation, interrupting mobs with Muzzle, or using traps like Tar Trap to slow them down.

You are also able to help the tank with keeping threat on mobs by using Misdirection on him. Currently, speed leveling through dungeon boosting is working on the Shadowlands pre-patch PTR. Dungeon boosting is having a max-level character pulling a low-level character through dungeons.

Because all three Hunters specializations are DPS specializations, be mindful that you will not be able to get into dungeons super fast. You will want to quest while waiting for dungeon queues to maximize your leveling time.In a dungeon, be careful to not pull threat over the tank or pull more mobs than them.

Heirloom gear is a special gear category that scales with your current level, can be created on the fly with the Heirloom menu, and offers set bonuses when multiple heirloom pieces are worn. The heirloom set bonuses are listed below:

2 Pieces: Rested experience consumed is reduced by 30%.3 Pieces : Increases your out-of-combat regeneration in the outdoors, normal dungeons and battlegrounds.5 Pieces : Gaining a level triggers Burst of Knowledge, dealing 6546 Holy damage to nearby enemies and granting you 40% $pri for 2 min. Defeating enemies extends this effect, up to an additional 2 min.6 Pieces : Rested experience consumed is reduced by 30%.

As of Shadowlands, Heirlooms no longer grant increased experience gains when worn, and the only benefit from wearing them now comes from the fact that they scale with you and the set bonuses, so they are no longer considered that strong or necessary to wear.For more information on the state of heirlooms in Shadowlands, check our heirloom changes guide.Heirloom Changes in ShadowlandsHere is a list of recommended heirlooms for Hunter players to level with: Although Heirlooms themselves are not as valuable as they once were, the Heirloom mount, Chauffeured Chopper, is still very valuable, as it is the only mount you can use until you can actually learn to mount at level 10.

You can obtain this mount by completing the achievement Heirloom Hoarder, Relics of the past are a new profession reagent added in Shadowlands. When crafting profession items and adding them to the craft, these items will have their item level and required level changed. All crafting professions can craft Relics of the Past, and these are the Relics of the Past that can be crafted:These are not very useful for leveling, as you should be outleveling items fairly quickly through your leveling experience in Shadowlands, but it can be a fun experience to level using items from the past.Stat Weights are usually not that important while leveling, as considering the nature of quest rewards, you will almost never be able to gather enough for a specific stat or keep a piece of gear for long enough for looking for stats to be a worthy endeavor.In the case of leveling, a piece with higher item level than the one you have equipped will almost always be better, as pieces with higher item levels will always have more Agility and Stamina.

Although there are many professions to choose from, some can give a Hunter a bit of an edge. A good profession combo as a Hunter is Skinning and Leatherworking – Skinning allows you to extract scales and furs from dead Beast mobs, and Leatherworking allows you to craft these scales and furs into wearable pieces of Mail gear.

Leatherworking is especially important for Hunters at maximum level, as you are able to craft the base pieces used for Level 60 Legendary Armor with the profession. Another interesting profession set for Hunters is Herbalism and Alchemy, where you use the herbs collected from Herbalism and convert them into potions with Alchemy.

Potions are always useful, be it to extract that extra bit of damage or to heal yourself in a bad situation. If you’re looking just to make money, you can pair Skinning with one of the other gathering professions, Mining or Herbalism, Enchanting is also an interesting money making profession, as it allows you to disenchant unwanted pieces of gear into reagents used to create powerful armor and weapon enchants.

Levels 1-10: Your race’s Starting Area or Exile’s Reach Levels 10-50: Battle for Azeroth zones or other expansion zones via Chromie Time Levels 50-60: Shadowlands Storyline or Threads of Fate

Brand new characters are required to do Exile’s Reach for levels 1-10 and Battle for Azeroth for levels 1-50.There is no innate advantage to level in whatever zones you’d like at levels 1 through 50, the only advantage being you will leave Exile’s Reach with a close to full set of Uncommon-quality armor. There are innate advantages to leveling in each expansion – Vanilla is more friendly for those who can’t fly, Wrath of the Lich King is very linear, Warlords of Draenor has a lot of treasures and bonus objectives, Legion has access to powerful Artifact weapons, etc.For levels 50-60, for your first time going through Shadowlands, you are forced to follow the order Bastion > Maldraxxus > Ardenweald > Revendreth, but for subsequent characters, you will be able to choose what zone order you want to go through.For more information about the Shadowlands leveling changes and level squish, check our guide:Shadowlands Leveling Changes & Level SquishThreads of Fate is a new system added in the Shadowlands expansion. Hunters are one of the best solo classes in the game, with many cooldowns centered about keeping their distance between themselves and the targets and arguably the most effective way of disengaging from combat completely.Hunters use one resource, Focus. Focus is a quickly generating resource that is used to fuel the Hunter’s most devastating abilities. Focus is the base resource for all Hunters. When idle, Focus stays at his maximum amount. Your strongest abilities will spend Focus, while your filler abilities will generate Focus. You also passively generate Focus over time at a slow rate. Ideally, you will always want to avoid reaching Focus cap, because it means you’re wasting Focus generation.

Every time Hunters are mentioned in WoW, the first thing that comes to mind are their pets. While not a feature unique to Hunters, Hunters have the deepest pet system in the game. Hunters are able to tame beasts enemies in the wild, befriending them and fighting with them against enemies.

All tameable beasts have special traits, depending on which pet family they belong. Hunters can have up to five pets with them at all times, plus plenty of room in their stables to store and collect other pets. Hunters can further customize pets by nicknaming them. Every different pet family has a specific pet specialization.

Those abilities range from simple short duration stuns and defensive abilities to the pet to more exciting ones like Heroism/Bloodlust ( Primal Rage ) abilities. In Shadowlands, each pet family is tied to a different specialization. Below, you can see an overview for what each pet specialization does.

Ferocity (PvE DPS) – Driven by a frenzied persistence to pursue prey, these beasts stop at nothing to achieve victory. Abilities gained: Primal Rage and Predator’s Thirst,

Tenacity (Tank) – Stalwart and veteran defenders who unquestionably place their thick hides and protective exteriors in harm’s way for their allies.

Abilities gained: Survival of the Fittest and Endurance Training,

Cunning (PvP DPS) – Guileful creatures capable of skillfully mitigating lethal blows dealt to themselves and their allies.

Beast Mastery Hunters have access to a larger pool of available pets with their spec-only ability: Exotic Beasts, This ability allows them to tame and use in combat more families of pets, including the much sought after Spirit Beasts. Currently, there are no differences stat-wise from normal to Exotic beasts, but some Exotic-exclusive pet families do have access to some interesting abilities.

Hunter pets are very varied and it can be a bit hard to determine which pets to use while leveling. However, it doesn’t matter much what pet you choose for leveling, as the differences between them besides their pet family abilities are minimal. Make sure you have at least one Tenacity pet to use against harder enemies, and one Ferocity pet for more damage and to use in dungeons.

Hunters signature utility comes in the shape of Freezing Trap, Feign Death and Aspect of the Turtle, the former granting hunters the ability to prevent an enemy to act for a minute, the second one granting the hunter the ability to leave combat at will in the open world and the latter allowing the hunter to prevent most of the incoming damage.

  • Besides those two signature spells, all specs have access to Aspect of the Cheetah, Exhilaration and Tar Trap,
  • Hunters have also access to escape spells like Disengage, and Survival also get Improved Harpoon,
  • All specs have also access to an interrupt, in form of Counter Shot for Marksmanship and Beast Mastery, and Muzzle for Survival.

When you first start your Hunter you will only have one ability, Steady Shot, This ability deals Physical damage to an enemy and generates Focus.

At level 2, you will learn Arcane Shot, a shot that uses Focus to deal Arcane damage to an enemy.At level 3, you will learn Wing Clip, a close-range attack that reduces movement speed.At level 4, you will learn Disengage, an ability that makes you jump backward, allowing you to quickly gain distance from a target.At level 5, you will learn Aspect of the Cheetah, an ability that increases your movement speed for a few seconds. You will also learn the following pet abilities: Tame Beast, an ability that allows you to take a beast and make it your pet. Call Pet 1, an ability that allows you to summon your pet to you. Mend Pet, a spell that allows you to heal your pet over time. Feed Pet, a spell that allows you to feed your pet and instantly heal it out of combat. Dismiss Pet, an ability that temporarily sends your pet away. You can summon it back with your Call Pet spells. Beast Lore, an ability that allows you to gather information on a selected beast, such as diet, available specializations, and whether or not you can tame it. Revive Pet, an ability that allows you to resurrect your pet, should it die in combat.

At level 6, you will learn Feign Death, an ability that allows you to pretend you’re dead and drop aggro from enemies. At level 7, you will learn Hunter’s Mark, an ability that allows you to track the marked at all times. At level 8, you will learn Aspect of the Turtle, an ability that reduces your damage taken and allows you to deflect attacks for a few seconds.

You cannot attack while under Aspect of the Turtle. At level 9, you will learn Exhilaration, a spell that instantly heals you and your pet.At level 10, you will have to choose a specialization. You can choose a specialization by pressing N, then selecting one specialization and click on Activate. You will then start learning spells that define the specialization you chose.

If you created an Allied Race Hunter, i.e. Void Elf, Lightforged Draenei, Dark Iron Dwarf, Kul Tiran, Mechagnome, Nightborne, Highmountain Tauren, Mag’har Orc, Zandalari Troll or Vulpera, you will start as a level 10 Hunter with all the above abilities learned.

(level 10, Pet): Summons your second pet to you. Freezing Trap (level 10): Hurls a frost trap to the target location that incapacitates the first enemy that approaches for 1 min. Damage will break the effect. Limit 1. Trap will exist for 1 min. Call Pet 3 (level 17, Pet): Summons your third pet to you. Flare (level 19): Exposes all hidden and invisible enemies within the targeted area for 20 sec. Tar Trap (level 21): Hurls a tar trap to the target location that creates a 8 yd radius pool of tar around itself for 30 sec when the first enemy approaches. All enemies have 50% reduced movement speed while in the area of effect. Trap will exist for 1 min. Command Pet (level 22, Pet): Commands your pet to perform its unique ability. This ability will transform based on the specialization of your active pet. Ferocity: Primal Rage Tenacity: Survival of the Fittest Cunning: Master’s Call

Misdirection (level 27): Misdirects all threat you cause to the targeted party or raid member, beginning with your next attack within 30 sec and lasting for 8 sec. Eyes of the Beast (level 29): Take direct control of your pet and see through its eyes for 1 min.

  1. Tranquilizing Shot (level 37): Removes 1 Enrage and 1 Magic effect from an enemy target.
  2. Scare Beast (level 39): Scares a beast, causing it to run in fear for up to 20 sec.
  3. Damage caused may interrupt the effect.
  4. Only one beast can be feared at a time.
  5. Call Pet 4 (level 41, Pet): Summons your fourth pet to you.

Eagle Eye (level 43): Changes your viewpoint to the targeted location for 1 min. Only usable outdoors. Improved Exhilaration (level 44, Rank 2): Exhilaration also heals your pet for 100% of maximum health. Aspect of the Cheetah (level 46, Rank 2): Aspect of the Cheetah’s initial movement speed burst duration is increased by 2.0 sec.

Kill Command (level 10): Give the command to kill, causing your pet to savagely deal moderate Physical damage to the enemy. Mastery: Master of Beasts (level 10, Mastery): Increases the damage done by your pets by 15.0%. Pack Tactics (level 11, Passive): Passive Focus generation increased by 100%. Barbed Shot (level 12): Fire a shot that tears through your enemy, causing them to bleed for light damage over 8 sec. Sends your pet into a frenzy, increasing attack speed by 30% for 8 sec, stacking up to 3 times. Generates 20 Focus over 8 sec. Concussive Shot (level 13): Dazes the target, slowing movement speed by 50% for 6 sec. Cobra Shot and Steady Shot will increase the duration of Concussive Shot on the target by 3.0 sec. (level 13, Passive): Concussive Shot will replace Wing Clip. Cobra Shot (level 14): A quick shot causing moderate Physical damage. Reduces the cooldown of Kill Command by 1 sec. Counter Shot (level 18): Interrupts spellcasting, preventing any spell in that school from being cast for 3 sec. Bestial Wrath (level 20): Sends you and your pet into a rage, increasing all damage you both deal by 25% for 15 sec. Multi-Shot (level 23): Fires several missiles, hitting up to 5 targets within 8 yards of your current target for light Physical damage. Wild Call (level 24, Passive): Your auto shot critical strikes have a 20% chance to reset the cooldown of Barbed Shot. Kindred Spirits (level 28, Passive): Increases your maximum Focus and your pet’s maximum Focus by 20. Beast Cleave (level 32, Passive): After you Multi-Shot, your pet’s melee attacks also strike up to 5 other nearby enemy targets for 75% as much for the next 4 sec. Intimidation (level 33): Commands your pet to intimidate the target, stunning it for 5 sec. Barbed Wrath (level 34, Rank 2): Bestial Wrath’s remaining cooldown is reduced by 12 sec each time you use Barbed Shot. Aspect of the Wild (level 38): Grants you and your pet 5 Focus per sec and 10% increased critical strike chance for 20 sec. Exotic Beasts (level 39, Passive): You master the art of beast training, teaching you the ability to tame Exotic pets. Kill Shot (level 42): You attempt to finish off a wounded target, dealing heavy Physical damage. Only usable on enemies with less than 20% health. Cobra Shot (level 49, Rank 2): Cobra Shot deals 100% increased damage. Improved Kill Shot (level 58, Rank 2): Kill Shot’s critical damage is increased by 25%.

These abilities can only be used by Hunters in the Marksmanship specialization:

Aimed Shot (level 10): A powerful aimed shot that deals heavy Physical damage. Mastery: Sniper Training (level 10, Mastery): Range of all your ranged abilities is increased by 5.0% and damage of all abilities increased by 11.0%. Improved Steady Shot (level 11, Rank 2): Steady Shot now generates 10 Focus. Bursting Shot (level 12): Fires an explosion of bolts at all enemies in front of you, knocking them back, snaring them by 50% for 6 sec, and dealing light Physical damage. Concussive Shot (level 13): Dazes the target, slowing movement speed by 50% for 6 sec. Cobra Shot and Steady Shot will increase the duration of Concussive Shot on the target by 3.0 sec. (level 13, Passive): Concussive Shot will replace Wing Clip. Crack Shot (level 14, Rank 2): Arcane Shot Focus cost reduced by 10. Counter Shot (level 18): Interrupts spellcasting, preventing any spell in that school from being cast for 3 sec. Rapid Fire (level 20): Shoot a stream of 7 shots at your target over 2 sec, dealing heavy Physical damage. Usable while moving. Multi-Shot (level 23): Fires several missiles, hitting your current target and up to 5 enemies within 10 yards for moderate Physical damage. Lone Wolf (level 24, Passive): Increases your damage by 10% when you do not have an active pet. Improved Rapid Fire (level 28, Rank 2): Each shot of Rapid Fire now generates 1 Focus. Trick Shots (level 32, Passive): When Multi-Shot hits 3 or more targets, your next Aimed Shot or Rapid Fire will ricochet and hit up to 5 additional targets for 50% of normal damage. Binding Shot (level 33): Fires a magical projectile, tethering the enemy and any other enemies within 5 yards for 10 sec, rooting them in place for 8 sec if they move more than 5 yards from the arrow. Trueshot (level 34): Reduces the cooldown of your Aimed Shot and Rapid Fire by 60%, and causes Aimed Shot to cast 50% faster for 15 sec. Precise Shots (level 38, Passive): Aimed Shot causes your next 1-2 Arcane Shots or Multi-Shots to deal 75% more damage. Kill Shot (level 42): You attempt to finish off a wounded target, dealing heavy Physical damage. Only usable on enemies with less than 20% health. Target Practice (level 49, Passive): Arcane Shot and Multi-Shot damage increased by 25%. Improved Kill Shot (level 58, Rank 2): Kill Shot’s critical damage is increased by 25%.

These abilities can only be used by Hunters in the Survival specialization:

Raptor Strike (level 10): A vicious slash dealing moderate Physical damage. Mastery: Spirit Bond (level 10, Mastery): You and your pet’s Focus spending abilities deal 13.0% increased damage. While your pet is active, you both regenerate 1.0% of maximum health every 5 sec. Kill Command (level 11): Give the command to kill, causing your pet to savagely deal moderate Physical damage to the enemy. Generates 15 Focus. Serpent Sting (level 12): Fire a poison-tipped arrow at an enemy, dealing light Nature damage instantly and additional moderate damage over 12 sec. (level 13, Rank 2): Wing Clip Focus cost is reduced by 10. Harpoon (level 14): Hurls a harpoon at an enemy, rooting them in place for 3 sec and pulling you to them. Muzzle (level 18): Interrupts spellcasting, preventing any spell in that school from being cast for 3 sec. Wildfire Bomb (level 20): Hurl a bomb at the target, exploding for light Fire damage in a cone and coating enemies in wildfire, scorching them for moderate Fire damage over 6 sec. Carve (level 23): A sweeping attack that strikes up to 5 enemies in front of you for light Physical damage. Aspect of the Eagle (level 24): Increases the range of your Raptor Strike to 40 yds for 15 sec. Flanker’s Advantage (level 28, Rank 2): Kill Command has a 25% chance to immediately reset its cooldown. Coordinated Assault increases this chance by another 25%. Frenzy Strikes (level 32, Rank 2): Carve reduces the remaining cooldown on Wildfire Bomb by 1 sec for each target hit, up to 5. Intimidation (level 33): Commands your pet to intimidate the target, stunning it for 5 sec. Coordinated Assault (level 34): You and your pet attack as one, increasing all damage you both deal by 20% for 20 sec. While Coordinated Assault is active, Kill Command’s chance to reset is increased by 25% Improved Harpoon (level 38, Rank 2): The cooldown of Harpoon is reduced by 10 sec. Kill Shot (level 42): You attempt to finish off a wounded target, dealing heavy Physical damage. Only usable on enemies with less than 20% health. Improved Wildfire Bomb (level 49, Rank 2): Wildfire Bomb deals 25% additional damage. Improved Kill Shot (level 58, Rank 2): Kill Shot’s critical damage is increased by 25%.

  4. Death Chakram shoots out a chakram towards a targeted enemy, bouncing multiple times applying a debuff, increasing physical damage taken by 10% for 10 sec.

With each bounce, the damage increases. Whether there is a single target or multiple targets, Death Chakram will always bounce a total of 7 times. This means that it will always do the same amount of damage, regardless of target count (although it’ll deal more priority target damage with fewer mobs).

  • Additionally, for each bounce that successfully hits, we gain 3 Focus.
  • The nice thing about this ability is how flexible it can be due to its low cooldown of 45 sec.
  • Necrolord is our worst covenant in terms of performance.
  • Nothing is inherently wrong with the ability or the covenant itself, it’s really just a matter of tuning.

While it’s nice in terms of flexibility, the fact that Death Chakram is on a 45-sec cooldown, which means it doesn’t really line up with any other cooldown of ours. Necrolord Conduit for Death Chakram Necrotic Barrage is the Necrolord-specific Conduit for Hunters that buffs Death Chakram,

Necrotic Barrage simply does not add enough to make this worth taking, and the extra focus is rather insignificant for Beast Mastery. There are other, better conduit options. Beast Mastery Hunter Conduit Guide Necrolord gives us access to Fleshcraft, At first glance, Fleshcraft seems to be an amazing defensive for us, and as many people know, Beast Mastery lacks proactive mitigation.

While it does provide a fairly large and useful shield (40% of our maximum health), the major downside of this ability is that it requires us to fully channel it for 3 sec. To compensate, you take 20% reduced damage while channeling. So while being immobile is bad, you can actually use this as a defensive cooldown! Content such as Mythic+ gives us ample time to channel it while traveling between packs.

  1. The new Necrolord exclusive legendary introduced in patch 9.1 for Hunters is Bag of Munitions,
  2. Since 9.2 this effect is available through the Unity legendary.
  3. It’s literally the same ability as our current Torghast power so if you’ve been Necrolord you’re familiar with it.
  4. It gives Necrolord some much-needed AoE, which it severely lacked in previous tiers.

It’s not worth swapping to Necrolord, but it’s a nice quality of life for current Necrolord Hunters. We’ll be using this as our go-to AoE legendary. Explosive Shot is also fully uncapped, so it’ll gain a bit of value in large AoE content. The Explosive Shot that is applied acts exactly how the Marksmanship talent Explosive Shot behaves.

  1. After 3 sec, the shot will explode, dealing a large amount of damage to 6 nearby enemies.
  2. If the target dies with the debuff, the shot will still explode at the corpse’s location.
  3. Each Explosive Shot also scales with the increased damage from Bestial Wrath so try to sync them together whenever possible.

There are no special legendary interactions as Necrolord, as neither Death Chakram nor your Soulbinds interact with any of the options. Beast Mastery Hunter Legendary Guide We’ll want to play Bonesmith Heirmir at max Renown. The main benefits are Forgeborne Reveries and Heirmir’s Arsenal: Marrowed Gemstone, the former gives you some nice mainstat as well as some extra damage as you are dying, the latter gives you a brief crit buff.

She also has both Carver’s Eye and Mnemonic Equipment, which give small passive bonuses. Necrotic Barrage generally isn’t worth taking, so for potency conduits, we’ll want to use Spirit Attunement, One With the Beast for conduits, with Bloodletting in AoE scenarios and Ferocious Appetite in single-target.

Conduits are socketed in order of highest priority from top to bottom in order to facilitate the greatest benefit when empowering conduit rows from renown. Beast Mastery Hunter Conduit Guide Death Chakram does not change your rotation besides just giving you an extra button to press on cooldown in every situation.

On both single target and AoE, you always just use it on cooldown for the damage and focus. Try to dump focus prior to using it to waste as little of the focus regen from Death Chakram as possible.   • As always, it’s recommended to sim yourself on Raidbots to find the most optimal build.
  • Necrolords have access, across all classes and specs, to the same three Soulbinds: Plague Deviser Marileth, Emeni, and Bonesmith Heirmir.
  • They are the NPCs you complete the zone story with and allow you to “attune” yourself to them to gain access to a tree of upgrades centered around your base toolkit (through Conduits) and covenant abilities (through special, game-wide traits).The tree progressively unlocks based on completion steps (such as finishing the campaign) and your Renown level with the Necrolord covenant.

I’ve summarized the optimal traits for each Soulbind below, along with potential conduits to slot in. Plague Deviser Marileth gives us options for three DPS traits: Plaguey’s Preemptive Strike causes your first ability cast on an enemy to increase your damage done to that target by 12% for 10 sec.

While it may seem fairly strong in AoE, it’s limited to one proc at a time. So, unless you plan to attack one enemy at a time, this trait is actually pretty underwhelming, even in Mythic+. Kevin’s Oozeling summons Kevin after using Death Chakram, Kevin will fight alongside you for 16 sec, increasing damage you deal by 6% against enemies Kevin is attacking.

He also grants allies an absorb shield periodically while he persists. Very strong in single target. Plague Deviser Marileth is the worst soulbind for raiding. Volatile Solvent paired with Kevin’s Oozeling obtained at renown 55 are decent for raid, but Plague Deviser really excels in AoE, due to the plethora of buffs that can be obtained from Volatile Solvent.

  • We’ll be able to obtain 3 potency conduits by taking the optimal path.
  • We’ll want to take One With the Beast, Bloodletting and Ferocious Appetite,
  • Plague Deviser Marileth gives us access to 3 endurance conduits, allowing us to use Resilience of the Hunter, Condensed Anima Sphere and Marksman’s Advantage,

There are a few traits in Plague Deviser Marileth’s tree which help us defensively in addition to Kevin’s Oozeling and the endurance conduits.

Ultimate Form doesn’t give us a defensive per se, but it does make us immune to knockbacks or any other forms of crowd control which can be useful in PvE situationally. This trait really shines in PvP though and is almost a must-have if you wind up going Necrolord. Ooz’s Frictionless Coating is the big perk defensively in Plague Deviser Marileth’s tree. If reduced below 50% health, we receive a 15% shield equal to 15% of our health. It can also occur every 30 sec so it’s available pretty frequently. Undulating Maneuvers redistributes 5% damage taken and spreads it out over the next 5 sec. It essentially acts like a Monks Stagger, making incoming damage a bit easier to heal.

An example tree to follow on this Soulbind is as follows:Emeni gives you 3 potential DPS traits:

Lead by Example is huge. This trait alone defines this tree, and is one of the strongest Soulbind traits, period. Every time we use Death Chakram, we gain 5% Agility, up to a whopping 13% Agility assuming you’re near 4 allies (which is easy to do in raid and dungeons) for 10 seconds. You also give your allies 2% of their primary stat as well, making this trait insanely good for both you and your allies. Remember, Death Chakram is a 45-sec cooldown, meaning you’ll have pretty high uptime on this buff throughout encounters. Gnashing Chompers gives us Haste after killing enemies. Similar to other abilities that act like this, Gnashing Chompers doesn’t perform very well in raid scenarios considering we aren’t killing enemies often in raids (aside from a few AoE fights). It gains some value in dungeon content since we’ll be killing enemies more consistently. Pustule Eruption applies 3 pustules per sec spent channeling Fleshcraft (max of 9). Taking damage or being healed pops the pustules, dealing damage to nearby enemies, and healing nearby allies. Does a sizable amount of damage, but requires us to be in melee range for full effectiveness. If pick, you want to be using Fleshcraft as part of your dps rotation.

Emeni is our second best soulbind for Necrolord. The tree is essentially carried by Lead by Example as the other traits don’t amount to much. Emeni forces us to choose between taking Gnashing Chompers or a second potency conduit slot. In most scenarios, we’ll opt to take the additional potency slot, but Gnashing Chompers can be decent in Mythic+.

At renown 54, we’ll receive Pustule Eruption, As mentioned above, it requires us to be near the enemies, so it isn’t exactly ideal for Beast Mastery Hunters. Emeni gives us 3 potency slots so we’ll be using One With the Beast, Bloodletting and Ferocious Appetite, In addition to the offensive bonus Emeni provides, she does give us some survivability and utility as well, although not nearly as much as some other Soulbinds.

Most notably, Emeni gives us Emeni’s Magnificent Skin for a bit of extra health, along with Gristled Toes for some extra movement speed. At renown 45, we’ll be able to pick up Resilient Stitching which gives us a solid magic absorption shield. An example tree to follow on this Soulbind is as follows:Bonesmith Heirmir gives you 4 different DPS traits:

Forgeborne Reveries is a unique trait that gives you 3% Agility assuming you’re gear is fully enchanted (which, it should be). It also gives us a small benefit after death, allowing you to continue fighting for 10 more seconds at 50% strength. While the ability seems cool, in the grand scheme of things it’s not a very useful ability. You shouldn’t be dying in the first place so ideally, you won’t be using this aspect of the trait at all. If you do happen to die, 10 sec isn’t a very long time to continue fighting so this benefit isn’t very useful for PvE. It does have some merit in PvP however. Heirmir’s Arsenal: Marrowed Gemstone essentially gives us an 18% increased Critical Strike chance for 10 sec, once a minute. Gemstone’s buff doesn’t start incrementing stacks again until the full 60-sec internal cooldown has expired. It’s a fairly strong trait, but it doesn’t always line up with our cooldowns due to the random nature of stacking it, and delayed incrementing time. Carver’s Eye gives us a large Mastery buff for 5 sec after damaging an enemy above 90% health. You can benefit from the same target multiple times, but it cannot occur more than once every 10 sec. Very solid trait for Mythic+ or any encounter with multiple add spawns. Mnemonic Equipment repeats 3% of your damage done to enemies below 35% health over 5 sec. This is a really good trait that essentially translates into a 2-3% damage gain while enemies are below 35% health.

Bonesmith Heirmir is the strongest of the three Necrolord Soulbinds for Beast Mastery Hunters. Forgeborne Reveries gives us a whopping 3% agility and Heirmir’s Arsenal: Marrowed Gemstone gives us a pretty solid bonus to Critical Strike every minute, which BM loves.

It doesn’t change anything about your gameplay. It doesn’t mean that your pet will play the game for you. Your pet does about 20% of the overall damage get over yourself.1 Like BM is considered the meta spec due mostly to the simple fact that from TBC onward pet damage scales with the player’s stats.

This acts as a huge boost for single target DPS. MM by contrast doesn’t scale nearly as well, leaving it around the mid table as far as pure DPS is concerned. So if your objective is simply damage, damage and more damage then you’re honestly better off biting the bullet and going BM but having said all that MM does offer some nice utility in the form of Silencing Shot and improved Viper Sting, along with the nice Marksmanship buff.

If you see yourself in more of a support/utility role Marksmanship may well be viable for you on that basis. Nearly every ability in the Revenant’s kit can slow targets, granting incredible crowd control for all PvE content and even the Crucible. That sounds underwhelming compared to Light subclasses on the surface, yet Revenant has one thing up its sleeve: armor mods. Elemental Well mods have incredible synergy with Stasis subclasses thanks to Elemental Shards, a mod that counts Stasis Shards as Elemental Well. As a result, Revenant is the most build-rich out of the Hunter subclasses.

A good build will have constant abilities, a near-permanent 25% damage buff, 40% DR, and enough crowd control to keep GM Nightfall enemies at bay. Revenant is a criminally underrated PvE subclass with a high PvP skill ceiling.

Beast Mastery Hunter – Important Utility: None Beast Mastery Hunter is the best Hunter specialization for raiding right now by a decent margin. Beast Mastery has competitive single target damage with the option to respec for substantial sustained cleave, and is overall strong throughout the raid.

The most compelling reason to bring them is their unparalleled ability to deal with movement. Beast Mastery is the only ranged DPS spec in the game that is able to perform 100% of their rotation while moving. While not as “required” as some other classes and specs, having at least one Hunter on your roster will ensure the gear is not wasted and will help round out your raid composition.

Important Utility: Arcane Intellect, Arcane Mage has competitive single target, but more importantly has the best single target burst damage in the game right now for small burst windows. On longer burst windows it gets beaten out by Unholy DK, but they only get to burst every 3 minutes while Arcane has much more frequent windows. Ice Block will always have value in a raid. Important Utility: Mystic Touch, Generous Pour, Close to Heart, Windwalker Monks have exceptional burst AoE and solid single target damage, making them quite formidable even without factoring in the numerous group buffs that they bring. Every raid always needs at least one Monk, and Windwalkers are possibly the best option when it comes to applying Mystic Touch, Additionally, Monks can talent into two incredibly useful buffs with Generous Pour and Close to Heart, which could be critically important on high-damage Mythic encounters where you are stacked with the raid group. Important Utility: Blessing of the Bronze Devastation Evokers have exceptional burst AoE, decent single target damage, and perhaps most importantly are able to deal with movement better than almost any other ranged. It is important to note that Devastation Evokers only have a range of 25 yards while still being classified as ranged DPS, which can be a huge drawback on some encounters depending on your raid positioning.

Flayed Shot is a DoT applied to a target that lasts for 18 sec.

Each tick of the DoT has a 10% chance to give Flayer’s Mark, allowing us to use a free Kill Shot that deals 25% additional damage, usable on any target, regardless of their health. Flayed Shot also costs zero focus. It’s fairly flexible as it has a 30-sec cooldown.

Venthyr is our best single target covenant. Where Venthyr falls short is AoE. Flayed Shot contributes no AoE whatsoever, so on anything other than pure single target, Venthyr falls behind. Additionally, by nature of being a DoT, Flayed Shot loses value if targets do not survive for it’s full duration. Due to these reasons, Venthyr is only a reasonable pick on pure single-target encounters, where it is relatively competitive.

Venthyr Conduit for Flayed Shot The covenant-specific conduit for Venthyr is Empowered Release, It simply increases the rate of procs and buffs the damage of Kill Shot s that stem from Flayer’s Mark, It’s a decent conduit for pure single target, but it performs worse than most of our generic conduits in AoE by itself.

Empowered Release synergizes very well with our covenant-specific Legendary Pouch of Razor Fragments, which I’ll discuss below. Beast Mastery Hunter Conduit Guide Venthyr gives us access to Door of Shadows, Using Door of Shadows, players are able to teleport a sizable distance. Unlike Soulshape from the Night Fae covenant, Door of Shadows can be used to cross areas that do not typically have a clear path, similar to a Warlocks Demonic Gateway,

The major downside to this ability is that it has a cast time of 1.5 sec, so it typically doesn’t have many uses in raid. In Mythic+, however, there are a number of places that Door of Shadows can be used to facilitate skips or shortcuts. While the additional teleport and movement speed can be useful, practically speaking, Hunters don’t have too many uses for it considering we have Aspect of the Cheetah and Disengage,

  • That being said, there are a number of Soulbind traits that enhance Door of Shadows, giving it some additional utility.
  • Traits such as Agent of Chaos or Watch the Shoes! can be quite useful, especially in PvP or dungeon content.
  • The Venthyr Hunter covenant specific legendary is Pouch of Razor Fragments,

It causes all bonus Kill Shot s that stem from Flayed Shot to apply a bleed to 6 nearby enemies, which includes the primary target. This is Venthyr’s go-to legendary in every scenario. The introduction of this legendary provides Venthyr with some much-needed AoE to its toolkit.

  1. The AoE it provides is sustained as well as RNG since it relies on getting procs.
  2. Thus, Venthyr still falls behind on any type of burst AoE content when compared to the other covenants.
  3. Pouch of Razor Fragments scales directly with the damage of Kill Shot,
  4. This means that the bleed applied is bolstered by any damage amps or critical strikes.

This also means that the legendary synergizes extremely well with Empowered Release since it directly increases the damage of Kill Shot. Additionally, the bleed from Pouch of Razor Fragments acts like our talent Master Marksman in the sense that the DoT compounds and will not overwrite itself.

There are no special legendary interactions as Venthyr, as neither Flayed Shot nor your Soulbinds interact with any of the options. Beast Mastery Hunter Legendary Guide Venthyr will prefer to use Theotar in all situations for his three potency conduit slots. Theotar is still rather strong with traits such as Party Favors, giving a large amount of stats.

We’ll want to use Empowered Release, One With the Beast for conduits, with Bloodletting in AoE scenarios and Ferocious Appetite in single-target. Conduits are socketed in order of highest priority from top to bottom in order to facilitate the greatest benefit when empowering conduit rows from renown.

They are the NPCs you complete the zone story with and allow you to “attune” yourself to them to gain access to a tree of upgrades centered around your base toolkit (through Conduits) and covenant abilities (through special, game-wide traits). The tree progressively unlocks based on completion steps (such as finishing the campaign) and your Renown level with the Venthyr covenant.

I’ve summarized the optimal traits for each Soulbind below, along with potential conduits to slot in. Nadjia the Mistblade gives you 3 major DPS traits:

Thrill Seeker is a really strong trait for Beast Mastery Hunters. The major downside to this ability is that it increments in a way that desyncs the buff from our cooldowns. That being said, it gives a fairly decent amount of Haste and still offers a solid benefit. Dauntless Duelist is a simple damage buff against your primary target. In a raid environment, this is literally a straight damage buff to the boss. Dauntless Duelist loses value in AoE situations since you may only have one “Adversary” at a time, meaning other enemies do not benefit from the increased damage. Dauntless Duelist resets when combat is dropped. Fatal Flaw increases your Critical Strike or Versatility by 20% for 10 sec after Thrill Seeker expires. This is a hefty buff that may or may not line up with our burst. We will benefit from it approximately once every minute.

Nadjia is a very solid option for single target. Between Fatal Flaw and Thrill Seeker we gain a ton of bonus damage. At renown 55, we’ll pick up Fatal Flaw, which is a very solid trait that gives an enormous stat boost. We’ll want to use Empowered Release, One With the Beast for conduits, with Bloodletting in AoE scenarios and Ferocious Appetite in single-target over Dauntless Duelist,

Sinful Preservation gives you an absorb equal to 50% of the amount healed by Healthstones and Health Potions. A solid trait that is fairly decent if you have a Warlock in your group.

An example tree to follow on this Soulbind is as follows:Theotar the Mad Duke gives us three potential DPS traits:

Soothing Shade offers a massive Mastery buff approximately once a minute. It’s fairly random but relatively strong. Beast Mastery loves Mastery in AoE, so this trait is pretty decent for us. The major downside to this ability is that it requires us to remain within the shaded area. This can be difficult while dodging mechanics, although as Beast Mastery Hunters it shouldn’t be too difficult. Refined Palate simply increases the duration of combat potions. While it sounds good, now that potions are on a 5-minute cooldown, this trait isn’t very good compared to some other options. Wasteland Propriety gives us a pretty hefty Versatility buff every time we use Flayed Shot that lasts for 10 sec. Assuming we’re using Flayed Shot on cooldown, Wasteland Propriety has an approximately 33% uptime throughout the encounter. This is pretty big considering that not only do we get 6% Versatility, but 4 nearby allies also gain 3% Versatility as well. Party Favors gives you a large stat bonus for a 4 hour period. It is unique in the sense that you can pick which stat bonus you’d like to obtain. You can speak with Theotar in Sinfall to gain either a Haste, Versatility, Critical Strike or Agility bonus. We’ll typically want to go with anything but the Agility option.

Theotar is Beast Mastery’s best covenant for most content. Soothing Shade alone provide a really good benefit. Adding in Party Favors at renown 54 gives us a huge stat boost for a 4 hour period. We also have access to two endurance conduit slots or two finesse slots depending on which route you opt to go.

  • For potency conduits, we’ll want to use Empowered Release, One With the Beast for conduits, with Bloodletting in AoE scenarios and Ferocious Appetite in single-target.
  • Defensively, Theotar gives us access to two endurance conduits.
  • At renown 45, we’ll get access to It’s Always Tea Time which is a fairly solid defensive trait.

Other than a few utility traits such as Watch the Shoes! or Leisurely Gait, he really doesn’t offer much on his baseline tree besides Wasteland Propriety which gives a pretty big Versatility buff. An example tree to follow on this Soulbind is as follows:General Draven gives you 3 DPS traits:

Built for War seems like a solid trait, and eventually, it might be. For raid progression purposes though, this is a pretty bad trait. Any trait requiring you to stay above a certain health threshold isn’t typically great while trying to learn fights and do mechanics properly. Of course, this is highly fight dependent, as it depends on the encounters (or dungeons) damage profile. Once content becomes farm, you are much more likely to get a higher benefit from this trait. Superior Tactics gives 10% Critical Strike every time you land a successful interrupt. If it were possible to interrupt enemies every 30 sec, this could be a good trait. Unfortunately, the only place where this trait is really beneficial is PvP. Battlefield Presence increases your damage done by 1% and reduces your damage taken for each enemy within 100 yards, up to a maximum of 3 enemies. It’s simply a straight 1-3% damage gain depending on the number of enemies present. Decent trait in single target, but excels in AoE.

Draven is the worst of the three soulbinds for Venthyr. He makes us choose between Built for War, Superior Tactics, and a potency slot, so the potential damage output is rather low. If you are confident in remaining above 80% health, Built for War is the path to take.

  • Otherwise, taking the additional potency slot is optimal.
  • In Mythic+ or PvP, Superior Tactics is a bit more viable, but not very consistent.
  • At renown 57, we’ll unlock Battlefield Presence which is a nice passive damage boost.
  • For potency conduits, we’ll want to use Empowered Release, One With the Beast for conduits, with Bloodletting in AoE scenarios and Ferocious Appetite in single-target.

While his offensive abilities are fairly underwhelming, General Draven gives us access to a ton defensive options. At a minimum, we are able to get two Endurance conduits, potentially up to four. Aside from endurance conduits and the damage reduction received from Battlefield Presence, Draven gives us access to a few other defensive options.

Service In Stone is General Draven’s signature ability. First off, all damage taken while below 40% health is reduced by 10%. This is a huge benefit that just adds a passive damage reduction to our arsenal. In addition to the damage reduction, When we die, our corpse turns to stone and explodes, dealing 100% of our maximum health to nearby enemies and healing allies for the same amount. The damage from the explosion is fairly notable, but you shouldn’t be dying in the first place. Hold Your Ground provides a solid stamina boost after standing still for 4 sec. It also increases healing done which will benefit Exhilaration and Mend Pet, but this portion is largely irrelevant to us. While it’s not great by any means, the bonus stamina can be decently useful depending on the situation. Regenerative Stone Skin turns 15% of all overhealing on you into a HoT that will be applied over the next 6 sec. Pretty nice quality of life trait that may help you recover from future damage events, despite being at full health.

  2. Necrolord is equally best for raiding. Marginally strongest defensive choice, but still very powerful in offense. Scales well with multiple targets, but can feel frantic to play with. Provides an additional defensive cooldown.
  3. Night Fae has the potential to be strong for damage in Mythic+ and provides a large amount of offhealing for a group, though it is the only Covenant whose ability is capped to hit up to 5 targets at a time and can quickly fall behind in larger target counts. With the help of its Faeline Harmony Legendary Power, it can avoid falling too far behind the other Covenants. This Covenant also requires you to be able to regularly stand still for long periods of time to maximize its potential, but it does offer an extra mobility cooldown.
  4. Venthyr is the most passive choice, and slightly worse than the other three options overall, but can offer decent burst damage; the true strength of this Covenant is heavily reliant on fight length. It also offers an extra movement cooldown.
