Best In Slot Legendary Frost Mage?
Best Legendaries for Frost Mage –
Focus | Legendary | Slots | Source |
---|---|---|---|
Single Target | Slick Ice | Waist or Legs | Torghast, Mort’regar, layer 3 or higher |
Multi-target | Glacial Fragments | Legs or Back | Torghast, Coldheart Interstitia, layer 3 or higher. |
Mythic+ as Necrolord | Cold Front | Chest or Cloak | Nalthor the Rimebinder |
Cleave, Burst, or Funnel Damage | Freezing Winds | Head or Hands | Sire Denathrius |
Solo | Grisly Icicle | Shoulder, Head, or Neck | Honor PvP Vendor |
The reason this table is split like this, and not by Raiding and Mythic+, is that Glacial Fragments is so ridiculously good on any form of multi-target, while basically being as though you are not even wearing a legendary while on single target. Likewise, Slick Ice is entirely useless on multi-target. Your decisions will be related to what type of content you are doing, and in the case of M+, what type of damage your group needs more of, and what Covenant you are.4.

This unlock is done by finishing Chapter 7 of the Zereth Mortis campaign. With this unlock, players are able to either use their Waist of Unity or craft a second legendary using Memory of Unity, While you have complete freedom for your first legendary, your second legendary can only be your Covenant legendary.
Both Waist of Unity or legendaries created with Memory of Unity change their effect based on your current covenant, so you don’t need to craft four separate second legendaries. This guide is written and maintained by Preheat, previously a World First raider and founding member of Liquid,

Generally the best Fire Mage Legendary is Sun King’s Blessing, Disciplinary Command is also a strong option, but it is situational. Sun King’s Blessing is our best option generally. Decent damage and predictable, but requires a bit of planning to make the most out of every Combustion,
- There is no special synergy required such as Pyroclasm or Venthyr to make the legendary work, it is generally good.
- The Sun King’s Blessing talent with Sun King’s Blessing do not stack.
- This means that we can take the talent in Mythic+ and run Disciplinary Command as our legendary.
- Sun King’s Blessing has many interactions with the playstyle specifically.
I recommend reading more about it here. Disciplinary Command grants a Critical strike damage increase after casting a spell of each school that lasts 20 seconds, on a 30 second cooldown. Activate on cooldown unless Combustion is coming off cooldown soon.
- Frostbolt and Frost Nova are the best spells to use to trigger the Frost component.
- Eep in mind that the Rune of Power that auto-casts with Combustion also counts.
- You can also use Shimmer, Counterspell, or Arcane Explosion,
- This is a situational legendary that gives more burst but less overall damage in most situations.
Heart of the Fae & Disciplinary Command are the default combination for Fire Mages Mythic+, not due to the strength of Heart of the Fae but instead because Night Fae is very strong in Mythic+. Heart of the Fae provides a buff to Haste and Critical Strike but the main benefit is that you can cast Shifting Power while moving.
This legendary provides a moderate damage increase in AoE, but much less in Single Target since it stacks 10 times and each hit counts. Disciplinary Command is preferred to Sun King’s Blessing in Mythic+ but this could be considered a matter of preference since Sun King’s Blessing is a talent. The Sun King’s Blessing talent with Sun King’s Blessing do not stack.
This means that we can take the talent in Mythic+ and run Disciplinary Command as our legendary if we use Sun King’s Blessing, Heart of the Fae & Sun King’s Blessing or Sinful Delight & Sun King’s Blessing are the default combinations for Fire Mage, depending on if you are Venthyr or Night Fae.
- Heart of the Fae provides very little damage in Single Target but with two or three targets hit, it actually provides a moderate (more than 5%) increase.
- Sinful Delight provides around a moderate bonus to Single Target, but is also a bit irrelevant.
- Sun King’s Blessing provides a Combustion for every 8 Hot Streak! procs you consume.
Did I mention this does not stack with the talent Sun King’s Blessing ? Covenant LegendariesEach covenant has their own legendary flavor. Sun King’s Blessing for most content. Disciplinary Command for M+.Generally speaking you want to craft for the slot you will gain the biggest stats benefit from.
- Looking for the slots where you are lacking.
- Be prepared to recraft them for better slots once you have better gear.
- As a Fire Mage you want to choose Haste as your first stat and Mastery as your second.
- The value of Mastery and Versatility fluctuates depending on other factors, but generally Mastery is the better choice due to the amount of Versatility you get from The First Sigil and Antumbra, Shadow of the Cosmos,
Below is a list of Legendary effects ranked from most useful to least. Sun King’s Blessing
Available Slots : Wrist, Hands Crafting Preference : Hands
Does not stack with the Sun King’s Blessing talent. Get a mini Combustion after consuming Hot Streak s. Decent damage and predictable, but requires a bit of planning to make the most out of every Combustion, This legendary activates with Flamestrike despite what the tooltip says.
Verdict : Best in most situations. Best made with Haste and Versatility. Mages using Antumbra, Shadow of the Cosmos and The First Sigil should favor Haste and Mastery on gear since so much Versatility is coming from these two items. Sun King’s Blessing has many interactions with the playstyle specifically.
I recommend reading more about it here. Disciplinary Command
Available Slots : Wrist, Finger Crafting Preference : Finger
Critical strike damage increase after casting a spell of each school.30 second cooldown. Activate on cooldown unless Combustion is coming off cooldown soon. Frostbolt and Frost Nova are the best spells to use to trigger the Frost component. Keep in mind that the Rune of Power that auto-casts with Combustion also counts.
If these are unavailable, you can also use Shimmer, Counterspell, or Arcane Explosion, Verdict : Very strong single target and AoE legendary. Best made with Haste and Versatility. Mages using Antumbra, Shadow of the Cosmos and The First Sigil should favor Haste and Mastery on gear since so much Versatility is coming from these two items.
Triune Ward
Available Slots : Neck, Chest Crafting Preference : Neck
Buffs Blazing Barrier to have all the barrier effects and increased absorption. Neat idea but offers no offensive capabilities. Very strong for PvP. Verdict : Defensive options for a pure DPS class don’t make much sense. I thought we learned our lesson about this in Legion but I guess not.
Decent for PvP. Legendaries are special pieces of armor that players can wear to enhance their powers. Why is Venthyr so good for frost mage?
Venthyr Frost Mages can use Door of Shadows, a targeted teleport with a short cast time. Having a short cooldown on a targeted teleport is awesome in Mythic+ and great as an additional gap closer in raids, especially with the increased cooldown on Shimmer.

Is fire Mage better than Frost TBC?
Fire vs Frost So I just respec’d from Frost to Fire and on the surface it feels considerably weaker. Granted I have only done Heroics and will be running 10/25 this week. But on Heroic bosses I seem to be getting sub 1k DPS while with Frost I could consistently get 1.1k DPS.
- I have better gear as Fire (given I finished the set and crafted Spell Legs).
- But from Short fight DPS to Mana it just seems Fire isn’t holding up very well.
- What gives? 1 Like probably because you need to weave out stacks of scorch among other spells in your rotation? and it requires higher amount of spell crit for fire spec to get pumping i could be wrong though 2 Likes Before even taking about your personal dps.
Fire boosts your raids fire locks dps by 15 percent. Most raids have two fire destro locks one shadow for 25. As a fire mage should be doing about 90 percent of there dps assuming same skill and gear. As such the boost of those two alone by 15 percent when there doing let’s say 1500 to give a number is a gain of 225 dps per so 450 dps.
- If there doing 1500 that means you should be in the ballpark of 1350 as fire.
- Even if you did as low as 1050 thou you are just as valuable as the locks.
- In fact still likly more as those locks are not the only source of fire.
- If you are frost thou you need to be doing damage equal to them to be worth your raid spot conspired to just taking another lock.
So how is it feeling weaker? Your value as fire is vastly greater than frost even if you don’t do the same numbers this is before talking about fire once geared dose do more damage than frost. If you are asking why your numbers went down thou the answer is fire is crit dependent.
- At low crit levels fires personal dps will be lower at high crit levels it will be higher assuming no really bad rng streaks.
- While just respecting from frost to fire further makes it likly your gear is not optimized for first compaired to frost.
- Just telling us you finished a set for fire is not enough to say your gear is better optimized for fire vs frost.
But none the less that 1k dps you mentioned losing is nothing vs the value fire is bringing to your raid so long as even a single other fire dps class and should always be. From a personal dps perspective frost is better than fire once you hit 70 becomes equal to fire come preraid with some Kara gear based on slots where talking about with fire being better in phase 1 gear.
- Thing is the moment you step into a raid fire is better raid dps due to fire vul assuming any other spec there is fire based.
- Frost is good for 5 mans thou always hit fire becomes better ones fully phase 1 geared as even if it’s dps comes ahead before that imp blizzard and the value of frost makes up for the lower dps in Kara gear before bis.1 Like If you are chasing personal dps Arcane is the king mage spec, check out some of the logs of sub 20 second Maulgar kills and a lot are just stacked with Arcane mages as long as you can manage your mana.1 Like I wouldn’t use Slow personally, 40 in Arcane tree down to 5/5 Mind Mastery and then 21 into Frost for Cold Snap (juicy double Icy Veins).
Think most guides have the “ideal” Arcane build listed but you can usually shuffle some around based on personal preference.1 Like Sindah: Yeah I’m staying frost because I just don’t enjoy playing fire all that much. Frost is a helluva lot more fun more useful IMO for not only raids but heroics and soloing as well.
- Frost has always been viable.
- It’s just that mages are seen as an s tier DPS class and having your secondary DPS spec bothers people.
- I’d take a bunch of frost mages if I knew I could count on them for mechanics.
- These people are crazy.
- It’s 2021.1 Like Sindah: “are you fire?” PM to which I replied “Nah, I’m frost and I’m geared” I woulda lied and then just showed up and topped the meters.1 Like Thinking back to Sunwell and thinking about your gear level, assuming pre-gear, the DPS range should be right.
I think in Sunwell rogues were getting up to 2.5k-2.7k, and sometimes 3k. Fire then required a lot of spell hit/critical hit(?) and critical strike, if memory serves me right. I would mess with Fire and Frost, depending on the encounter at hand. For me, I will be playing Arcane, because that’s how I do things.
Thank you all for your input. I will give it a good college try for a few weeks to see how it plays out. I just know in SCC there are some bosses who do not work very well with Frost, although I know Frost is SO much better in Heroics. I cannot count the amount of times we have saved a wipe with Elemental and IMP blizzard kiting.2 Likes Like Hydross! Ideally, you’ll want to play both.
For me, I just want to wand things. Best of luck in your adventures. Why would anyone use a cheese maulgar strategy as the baseline for any kind of dps comparison? Especially for arcane mages that lose power (in this phase) the longer the fight goes on? Don’t get me wrong, for personal dps I also think it is pretty clearly arcane.
But your choice of example is silly.1 Like I think the main reason frost feels better in 5 mans and kara is because it is more reliant on cooldowns. In many cases, especially with lower levels of gear, frost can outpace fire easily due to double water ele and double icy veins. Obviously there are other reasons like fire needing more crit and frost getting more free hit (I assume that’s still a thing?) but having 40 seconds of icy veins and 100% uptime on water elemental is strong.
In longer fights like Gruul/Mag fire should beat frost even without considering the imp scorch for any firelocks. For shorter fights (and even longer ones if you have support) arcane is king.1 Like
Frost is just easier to be consistent pop icy, elemental and frostbolt maybe pop cold snap and repeat the process if the fight goes onFire has a bit more RNG to it but scorch to 5 combustion + icy fireball scorch refresh range can be 1-1.8k dps depending on critsArcane is where it is at consistent High dps the best cooldowns of frost with icy and snap
I just don’t find primary Fire or Arcane spec very fun to play on my 70 Mage, for various reasons, so stick to my preferred Frost(43)/Arcane(18) spec & just work within those limitations. Works for me.2 Likes I just switched to frost from fire. Except for ahune i offer massive utility, self-preservation, and comparable dps.
Fire has burst ya, but I just did a (H) SH yesterday in 37 minutes. I think our largest pull was 3 packs. Improved frozen blizzard with 2 locks melting them. I think I like frost. Meta-beware You are just trading on colored bolt for another lmao. Fireball spam vs frostbolt spam. Amazing lol. damage meters are serious business – especially in dungeons.

What should you not put dry ice in?
Never store dry ice in a tightly sealed container, such as a plastic or glass bottle, or any container with a screw-top lid that will not vent. Styrofoam is an appropriate storage material since it is both insulated and not airtight.

Can you wrap dry ice in a towel?
Now that we have your attention, here are some other interesting facts about how to use dry ice in a cooler successfully and safely: –
Dry ice is colder than regular wet ice which quickly cools or freezes items and keeps them colder longer. Dry ice temperature can average about negative 109.3 degrees Fahrenheit.Dry ice doesn’t melt like regular ice, so paper-wrapped meat won’t get wet. Dry ice releases gas instead of a liquid.Dry ice is lighter than conventional ice which makes transporting your cooler easier.Dry ice is well-suited for items you want to keep frozen like meat and ice cream. It’s not the best choice for an afternoon picnic. Dry ice will quickly freeze items like beverages and sandwiches so it will turn your roast beef sandwich into a roast beef-sicle, etc.Dry ice “melts” or dissipates faster than conventional ice so it’s not a good choice for a long trip.Dry ice is more expensive by weight or size than conventional ice. If you have many items to keep cold for a long duration of time, regular ice is your best bet.Dry ice is readily available. Google “dry ice near me” and you’ll see it can be purchased at many grocery stores among other locations. Some stores have “over 18 years of age” purchasing requirements because of the handling risks.Dry ice should never come in contact with skin. Always use protective gloves, towels, or tongs to handle dry ice. It’s colder than regular ice and can burn skin similar to frostbite.Use dry ice in well-ventilated areas because when it converts to carbon dioxide gas instead of melting, replacing oxygen. It should not be inhaled, eaten, or swallowed. When purchasing and transporting block dry ice, it’s generally recommended to drive with the windows down. If possible, transport away from the driver and passenger compartment. Headaches, rapid breathing, and passing out can happen if exposed to too much carbon dioxide.Carbon dioxide is heavier than oxygen so it will sink to lower areas in a vehicle so be especially mindful of pets.Proper Ventilation is key. Open the cooler drain plug to allow carbon dioxide to escape from the cooler so pressure does not build up within the cooler. An alternative would be to keep the cooler open.Wrap dry ice in towels or newspapers before placing it in a cooler.Put the dry ice on the bottom of the cooler or on top of cooler contents.Use the newspaper to fill empty space within the cooler.Dry ice can be used in conjunction with conventional ice. Keep dry ice from coming in contact with water to extend dry ice life.In camp, store cooler with dry ice away from the tent or camper.

Is frost Mage good for solo?
Best Frost Mage Anima Powers – Rating Anima powers is an incredibly difficult thing to do. There are a lot of seemingly bad powers that will suddenly become fantastic when combined with certain other powers. Others will feel fairly useless when grouped up.
Yet still more others will be dependent on how you are playing through the tower. Higher layers may necessitate more defensive utility to survive, although that will also be dependent on how well you can kite and abuse line of sight. In addition, since you cannot anticipate what you are going to get in any given run, giving a stack rank tier list seems a bit odd.
Instead, this section will call attention to some potentially very powerful combinations, and the situations in which they thrive. Grisly Icicle is probably one of the most powerful Anima powers. This can entirely cut enemy movement to 0, and if no ranged mobs are in combat, damage taken to 0 as well. This will also grant you 10 seconds of Shatter on everything caught by your Frost Nova, This is very powerful in all solo and group runs, as nothing your teammates do will break Frost Nova either. It cannot be overstated how strong this is for Frost Mages. Related to the above, Tundrid Phial reduces the cooldown of Frost Nova, and it stacks as you find more of them. It is a fairly common power too, and when combined with Grisly Icicle it means that you can take literally no damage from melee mobs for the entire run. Additionally, Gravity Dynamo adds even more damage to Grisly Icicle, Highly-Polished Handmirror combined with Clouded Diamond and multiple Spaceweaver’s Thread s mean that you can Blink or Shimmer around the entire level, while throwing Mirror Image s that do formidable damage. This can be enhanced even further by Sapphire Prism, where your manually-cast Mirror Image will summon more copies, who are also empowered in the same way. Seeker’s Scroll is a great passive damage increase if you can get it early. Triune Ward is one of the most ridiculously-powerful defensive powers in the tower. This will functionally take your Ice Barrier ‘s usual 22% Max Health barrier, and turn it into a 62% Max Health barrier that also reduces magical damage taken by 15%. This can be further empowered with Resolute Medallion, where even one stack of it takes you to 105.4% Maximum Health when combined with Triune Ward. These two are very likely mandatory if you see them on higher layers, as the amount of damage reduction afforded by them is simply unmatched. These can also be combined with Incanter’s Ward so that absorbing damage buffs your output further. Frostbite Wand halving the health of a mob means that if you can kill it in those 4 seconds, you’ve saved yourself a ridiculous amount of time. This is generally paired with large scale AoE damage, such as Chaos Invitation, Likewise, Frostchipper will permanently reduce a mob’s health by 5% if it procs. Since it procs from frost damage, this is a fairly nice power for Frost Mage. Lens of Elchaver is fantastic on Frost Mage as most of your damage will critically strike due to Shatter, Chronomancer’s Hourglass combined with multiple stacks of Bottled Tesseract can give you a very short cooldown on Time Warp, This can be further combined with Timeweaver’s Needle, which reduces Alter Time ‘s cooldown while active. If you have managed to find a bunch of Bloating Fodder, Dimensional Blade can be fairly effective if you grab giant sections of the floor and simply Blink through, usually killing enough Mawrats to set off a chain reaction and destroy the entire pack. This is not a recommended combo due to the damage being low until you obtain a lot of Bloating Fodder powers, but it is definitely a funny combo. For a complete list of Anima Powers, please refer to the following pages.4.

Is frost better than unholy?
Unholy vs Frost Aside from min/max stats, which of these two flow better (especially when soloing)? There isn’t a whole lot of difference between the top seed race/spec and my preferred race, so it’s not about race. What I want to know from the experienced DK’s is whether they think one feels better than the other and would also be helpful to know if you solo, do you use ‘recommended’ talents or do you use a different talent other than what is recommended for Raid level uses.
Thank you! Unholy feels like absolute crap. You’re constantly starving for runes. You only do damage when all your CDs are up. It’s an absolute dumpster fire of a spec just from how it feels. Frost is more fun and has two builds which both do well – 2h obliteration or DW breath build.6 Likes Frost is way more fun than Unholy.4 Likes For solo’ing oblit frost gets into the action right away.
Unholy is annoying to wq with. Recently hopped on my DK to get him up to max level (So maybe I’m not the most experienced). Unholy feels like one of the most clunky specs in game right now. Frost isn’t exactly the smoothest either, but it does flow way better.
Theres generally two lanes to go with talents Frost, BoS or Obliteration focused, both are fun. I soloed mostly with BoS as I found it better for AoE,1 Like Unholy main advantage is to dot and run with epidemic spam and death and decay slow. Frost does better target switch and doesnt have to setup their cds as extremly as unholy.1 Like If you just want to do solo content, Frost is definitely more intuitive.
Just play the Obliteration build and have fun smacking dudes with giant crits. I might be biased but Unholy is probably the most difficult melee spec to play optimally these days, what with the resource management and CD bloat and need to synergize trinkets with the copious amounts of CDs that don’t line up.
- It’s rewarding to get it right with the massive ST damage potential, but it can be a bumpy road to reach the point where you have all the “necessary” gear.4 Likes I bet after Dragonflight Unholy is reworked into a spell caster specialization.
- They’ll probably take Warlock’s haunt and deathbolt abilities though.
To me, Frost flows better but seems too CD dependent – maybe I just havent found the correct build. I just go Blood for soloing. I never die its just a little slow. Just echoing what others are saying. UH feels terrible to play. The spec theme is amazing but its execution is a dog biscuit.
- Play Frost if it appeals to you.
- Maybe if enough people abandon Unholy Blizz will take a closer look at it, but I doubt they even care.1 Like Frost w/Obliterate is all about short CDs and relative to Unholy has flexibility of play.
- It’s easier to keep damage and healing up in rapid target-to-target, toe-to-toe play.
Frost damage is there almost immediately, while Unholy always takes at least a little bit of ramp up, and its big damage is based on CDs and synergies that can leave you plinking away and twiddling your thumbs. Frost healing is also right there pretty quickly in open world play, making it easier to move from target to target without finding yourself half or more dead – but for me it’s harder to keep that up in longer fights against tougher opponents.
Unholy doesn’t like to do much of anything quickly, but in longer fights (elites/rares) once you’ve learned to play it efficiently and effectively its healing seems more sustainable.1 Like Honestly, I haven’t seen an Unholy Death Knight is a good minute Frost all the way, I don’t want to explain why, it’s just better 1 Like Isnt’ Frost DK supposed to be the worst PvP spec in the game? Or have balance or meta changes fixed that? That’s because the spec as it stands is unfun and the dps is not good enough to warrant suffering through it.1 Like I believe Unholy takes a bit of know how to make it work well.
Frost on the other hand is easier to get into.1 Like I play 2h obliteration frost dk just because it goes boom with cd, massive cleave. Super fun, always pressing something. Not a fan of duel wield, but thats my opinion.2 Likes Frost is just all around more fun to play 2 Likes Looks like you have no idea what u talking about.
- DW unholy is averaging 2k to 3k more dps than frost according to the wow log.
- Way way ahead of frost.
- The majority of the dps are from melee swing, gargyole, DND and ghoul which takes up almost 90 percent of the damage.
- Unholy does not rely on runes at all.
- You either never play a dk or play it wrong.
- Just go check wow log.
Theres no circumstance where frost is better than unholy. The guy you replied to was talking about Shadowlands. The date of his post should have made that obvious since Wrath Classic hadn’t even launched at the time : Unholy vs Frost
