What does Amber gem actually slot into? For the life of me, I cannot figure out what type of weapon Amber gem can slot into. Everyone said it could not be in a weapon with an elemental affix. Yet, on weapons I have without any chain / elemental affix, I still cannot slot amber.

1. How does the amber gem work? What can I slot it into? I just want to run great axe / lifestaff and literally bought 6 different axes all with different affixes just to discover I can’t socket Amber any of them.
2. For some of them, an INT gem slots just fine.

4. Is this a bug? How I have mine – I am maining a life staff so all attributes are into Focus.

My secondary is a hatchet. I put a cut amber gem in it and it then uses 20% of my focus as nature dmg (brown num and leaf displayed for dmg) when I use the hatchet. You can’t use the Amber on the life staff because it is already Nature dmg. Not sure why you wouldn’t be able to put the amber into the great axe.

Yes, I have main lifestaff as well. This is why I want to put an amber in the great axe so it can scale off all the focus I have from gear and attributes. I did test this with 2 Great Axes and one cut flawed amber, as well as a brilliant amber and compared it to the damage the Great Axe dealt before inserting any gems.

Inserting an Amber Gem of any sorts had only I’d be careful spending a lot of money on higher level amber gems until this is taken care of for sure. I am not in game atm so cant test to see if I can. You should be able to drop it in any gem slot. I have used 2 in 2 hatchets an no issues. I’ve placed quite a few (perhaps 10) amber gems in both hatchets and warhammers without issue. I haven’t tried a greataxe before, but I don’t see why that would be a problem.

I’m becoming more and more convinced it’s a bug.

• You can not put any elemental splitting gem in to a weapon that already has a perk related to an element unless the gem is the same type.
• A weapon with a socket and no chain attack can have any elemental gem in it.
• If your weapon already has, say Lightning Chain on it, then you can only socket a Topaz in to it.
• I feel like there is another elemental damage type perk too but unsure, but if there is it follows the same rule.

Crystalline Great Axe:

• Corrupted Bane: +16% damage to corrupted
• Keenly Empowered: On crit get 15% empowered 5s

Ancient Great Axe:

Refreshing Move: Light and Heavy attacks reduce your active weapon cooldowns by 2.5%

Laja: Just to highlight what I am asking: Does anyone know how the amber gem is supposed to work? Is it correct that it is only supposed to be weapons with elemental affixes that it cannot be used with? I’ve never been unable to place an amber gem in a socketed weapon so far, unless it had an elemental proc affix.

That’s a fairly small sample size though. Could you perhaps provide a sample screenshot of a weapon and a gem you’ve tried to combine? Occasionally gem wouldn’t go into an item of the same tier, but gem 1 tier lower would go in just fine. It’s rare, so I am not sure what exactly causes this. I can say for sure that none of such items I’ve encountered had elemental damage on them.
