How much DPS should a ret paladin be doing?

Ret Paladin DPS Mine seems to be in the low 20k. I’ve looked online for my spec and I think that is a bit low for someone in my gear. Wings helps a ton and I can go up to upper 30s with wings but once that wears off it drops considerably. If anyone wants to provide some insight I’d appreciate it.

I’ve been doing Mythic+ and raids since BFA started with that spec among others. It’s true at the moment single target isn’t as high as some other classes. And in raiding that’s especially true but you can still pull around 20-25 pretty easily even without crazy gear when Templars procs as much as it does right now.

In Mythic+ however they’re very strong when it comes to multi target fighting since the Divine Storm buff along with Wake of Ashes.2 Likes I don’t see any fights logged for you, I’d really recommend looking up how to log your fights. It is the best way to improve yourself. And also sim sim sim sim yourself, sim stat weights and talent/gear compare.1 Like 20 – 25k is very low.

That is the problem with the spec. A decently geared Ret will pull 20 – 25k where another class 5 – 10 ilvls lower will pull 30k – 35k. Equally geared/ilvl classes are pulling 40k+. Holy Paladins, the healing spec, is pulling 20k dps. Playing Holy for the first time and ran a few +2s.

Of course I have a lot more practice to do, but was curious in the meantime how much DPS you should be seeing out of a Holy Pally in dungeons? It’ll give me a good milestone to measure against! Ret is a burden this tier. No benefit to them. Its nice if you are in a Guild and they are willing to take you through Normal and Heroic but the spec is no benefit at all to the group.1 Like you guys all know nothing about pve or your intentionally misleading op but I’m going to assume your just ignorant.

Even the top 2 guilds in the world bring a Ret because of how valuable they are to prog. More then just Limit /method but their great examples. They have one of the highest burst in the game, when someone dies on a fight the ret is doing the most damage in group for 10 seconds.

And their utility on top of that. Theirs a reason all the top end guilds run 1. You have a limited amount to melee you can bring to a raid to min max. Ret is one of the melee you want. The lack of pve experience here commenting is hilarious. I reccomened joining the pally discord OP they can help you improve.

This tier dps is all about having the right corruption affixes. @op at first glance I can tell you your Essences are incorrect for single target and Aoe. Lucid major is by far the best atm. I reccomend using raidbots website to sim yourself and statweights to know what you should be enchanting /gemming as with ret it changes a lot.4 Likes Your Talents is OK, But what i can suggest you stack 3x Light’s Decree.

Light’s Decree helps you pulling huge number on Aoe fight and it’s damage on Single Fight isn’t Bad. If you use a lot Crit+haste gear use Expurgation traits.Get Vision of Perfection Neck Essence ( Paladin’s Biggest DPS booster, according to bloodmallet). Your Most gear has Crit+Haste. I would suggest Haste+Versatility.

But you better sim in Raidbots. com and check yourself. Try with DP talents in M+ and Inq in Raids.2 Likes None of the top guilds are using Ret this tier in their lineup, nor did they last tier. Ret has no where near the burst of any other melee class and not the highest in the game.

The only reason they wouldnt run him is fights other people need gear and he doesnt or possibly high mobility fights.1 Like Hit up the ret discord and utilize skeletor’s site. I’d also suggest simming as well. So i checked the M+15 logs of Ret Paladin. Most is running 1x Expurgation, 1x Empyrian, 2x or 3x Lights Decree and Vision of Perfection as Essence.

The TL;DR I’m reading shows the following:

  • Ashvane’s Razor Coral still fkin’ rocks!
  • The most common build is Execution sentence, Hammer of wrath, Wake of ashes, and (Inquisition/Crusade, depending on sims this changes all the time for me)
  • Expurgate + Light’s decree are the bees knees, just make sure you have ONE empyrean power. I don’t even have close to BiS, and I’m still very competitive and giving our DH’s and rogues a run for their money. *Get Geti’ikku, Cut of Death, from M+ Kings Rest if you don’t have a good weapon. It bumped my sims quite a bit.

Rotation: Our rotation is a mess of procs and constant changing priorities. Do yourself a favor and download the Hekili addon. Consider it training wheels that you should learn from. It’s an addon that prioritizes for you. It’s like, 90% accurate. Uptime: Knowing the fight can raise your dps better than any corruption gear.

  • Now the phases, and start to actually think about when you pop those wings.
  • Ex: popping wings into a phase where the boss is immune because you’re a filthy casual like me).
  • Sims aren’t the whole picture : Sims are amazing to show you the progress your character is making.
  • I’m currently at 55.9k Patchwerk dps and climbing, and it’s awesome for that.

BUT. If complicating your rotation with one you’re not comfortable with is the outcome, your top dps sims can bone your DPS. For example, if condensed life ever sims #1, I ignore it, simply because I don’t know the opener well. TL;DR. Middle of the pack sucks, but with a lot of work and intelligence you can surpass players that are higher tier but not playing smart.

And its true that high aoe helps ret even lip on a single target fight like the dog was top 3 in limit in mythic. The main reason people think rets bad is because not everyone is good at min maxing properly. Its not faceroll like dh/dk min maxing.1 Like Kinda crazy just to think of ret being top 3.

Other than using it on cooldown, it doesn’t have too many interactions with the rest of Retribution’s abilities or requirements to use properly. Necrolord Conduit for Retribution Paladin The Potency conduit for Necrolord is Righteous Might, which increases its initial damage and also heals you.

Unfortunately, since the initial hit of Vanquisher’s Hammer is weak and most of the damage benefit comes from the free Divine Storm, it’s not worth using as a Potency conduit. Retribution Paladin Conduit Guide Necrolord’s signature ability is Fleshcraft, which is a channeled cast for up to 3 seconds that creates an absorb shield for 40% of your health.

Although you probably won’t want to stop in the middle of combat to channel a defensive for that long when there’s so many other defensive options available to Ret, if you have some downtime between pulls in Mythic+, or during a phase transition in a raid, then it’ll provide some decent defensive utility.

This new Legendary will provide double the bonus Divine Storm s and one extra Vanquisher’s Hammer over the course of a raid fight. It also works fairly well with Execution Sentence and Final Reckoning, since you can use two charges of Vanquisher’s Hammer with each set of cooldowns, and then save the charge in between for the next set.

Technically Tempest of the Lightbringer will increase the damage of Vanquisher’s Hammer ‘s free Divine Storm, but it doesn’t change the situations you would or wouldn’t use that Legendary. Other than this, there’s no specific Legendaries that synergize with Necrolord.

  • Retribution Paladin Legendary Guide Marileth is a strong soulbind as long as you can use Fleshcraft on cooldown for Volatile Solvent ‘s Mastery buff.
  • Evin’s Oozeling is also a nice damage bonus at the end of the tree.
  • As Necrolord you’ll always use Expurgation and Virtuous Command regardless of the situation, and swap between Templar’s Vindication and Truth’s Wake depending on the target count.

The below Soulbind Calculator is valid starting at Renown 60. Conduits are socketed in order of highest priority from top to bottom in order to facilitate the greatest benefit when empowering conduit rows with Renown.   1. Retribution Paladin Conduit Guide Vanquisher’s Hammer Vanquisher’s Hammer is a pretty easy ability to use in your rotation.
  2. As long as you’re pressing it on cooldown you’ll be fine, as it’ll line up with your cooldowns like Avenging Wrath naturally.
  3. The only exception is if you’re using Duty-Bound Gavel with either Execution Sentence or Final Reckoning, in which case you’ll want to use two charges with each set of cooldowns, and then hold the charge of Vanquisher’s Hammer that comes off cooldown between them for the next set of cooldowns.

The only other change you’ll need to make is that on multiple targets after you use Vanquisher’s Hammer, instead of using Divine Storm, use one Templar’s Verdict as it’ll automatically cast a free Divine Storm anyway. Fleshcraft With Volatile Solvent or Pustule Eruption, Fleshcraft becomes a damage increase to use as well.

  1. For Volatile Solvent you only need to begin the channel to gain its buff, but for Pustule Eruption you’ll want to fully channel it.
  2. Use Fleshcraft on cooldown with either Soulbind trait.
  3. Retribution Paladin Rotation Guide Final Reckoning is slightly better for Necrolord, since you will do slightly more damage with finishers in its window due to the Divine Storm proc.

Otherwise, there aren’t any special talent interactions with Necrolord. Retribution Paladin Talent GuideThere aren’t any differences for Necrolord that you need to think about when choosing your gear. Same as always, you should use SimulationCraft or Raidbots in order to determine the best gear choices for your character.Retribution Paladin Stats GuideThe best path to pick for Retribution will usually include as many Potency conduits as possible, so the correct path to use is generally pretty easy to identify.

The biggest choice between each soulbind for damage will be based on the extra damage soulbind abilities that they provide on top of the Potency slots. In situations where the choice is between a Finesse and an Endurance slot or between two other utility soulbind abilities, feel free to deviate from the recommended paths if you think another option would be more useful for you.

Volatile Solvent is an interesting ability that provides an extra 2 minute buff when channeling Fleshcraft, It automatically provides a Mastery buff, and if you move next to an enemy corpse, you’ll also gain a buff depending on which type of creature it is.

  • There are some enemy types that provide decent damage buffs, but situations where you can consistently channel near dead enemies for a buff are rare in raids.
  • In Mythic+ it’s obviously a lot easier to find corpses, but the value will vary a lot dungeon to dungeon.
  • The other relevant soulbind abilities are Ooz’s Frictionless Coating, which is a pretty strong defensive ability, and Ultimate Form which is not going to be useful for most PvE content, but may be valuable as a niche ability.

At higher renown, Kevin’s Oozeling also spawns an ooze when you cast Vanquisher’s Hammer that does a decent amount of extra damage. Emeni’s most important ability is Lead by Example, which increases your strength by up to 13% after you use Vanquisher’s Hammer,

Since you’ll use Vanquisher’s Hammer on cooldown anyway, it’s not a buff you need to consider heavily when playing as you’ll gain its bonus naturally. Emeni also provides Emeni’s Magnificent Skin which helps increase the defensive value of Fleshcraft, and Gristled Toes which is a pretty decent speed increase that scales up depending on the number of enemies nearby.

Later on you’ll also get Pustule Eruption, which spawns 9 pustules when you channel Fleshcraft that burst for a decent amount of AoE damage when you get healed. Heirmir grants you access to Forgeborne Reveries, which is not quite a cheat death – it lets you keep fighting for 10 seconds after you die, but after that duration you really do die.

It also increases your strength by up to 3% based on if you have your gear enchanted, which you almost certainly will. Resourceful Fleshcrafting can help if you really want to be casting Fleshcraft frequently, and Heirmir’s Arsenal: Gorestompers is ok as a movement ability, but has a very long internal cooldown.

Past 40 renown, Heirmir also has two extra damage traits with Carver’s Eye and Mnemonic Equipment, These abilities buff damage to enemies above 90% and below 35% respectively, which covers a good range of a normal encounter. Patch 9.2 adds the option of using two legendaries at the same time, with the restriction that one of them is your Covenant legendary.

Intellect. Each point of Intellect increases your max mana by 15. Having a higher mana pool means you can cast more spells before running out of mana, but in general this is not as big of a deal for Ret Paladins in PvE. Some Intellect is fine, but this is not worth stacking, and too much of it will be a waste.

Why is haste good for ret Paladin?

Ret Pally: Why haste instead vers? PvE Tittle says for itself. I searched for it and didnt find why, versatility increase damage done so why rush haste? The reason is many of holy power generating abilities have cd’s which is lowered by haste. More holy power means more Templar’s Verdicts or Divine Storms. Vers, Mastery and Crit all buff their damage but don’t smooth out the rotation. Without haste the spec has a lot of dead spots unless you get really lucky with RNG. Crusade and Hammer of Wrath are very commonly taken talents so that leaves only BoW procs to fill in those gaps.5 Likes You don’t “rush” any stats. Best thing is to use a tool like Raidbots and sim your character to find what gives you the most benefit.1 Like Az talents being equal more haste will generally result in more damage as compared to the other secondary stats. Can you provide proof of this claim? With paladin’s, as always, haste is a comfort thing really. With each spec in pallies, you need a certain amount of haste to smooth the rotation. After you get to a amount of haste that fits your playstyle, it turns into a battle between crit and mastery. Ret wants haste, mastery, crit(usually as mastery increases your dmg overall and crit just makes spikes but not good for sustained) versatility Prot wants haste, mastery, vers, crit.(unless you like rng from Parry and block) Holy likes haste and crit over all. Masterycan be decent depending on build. Versatility can help each spec. But, it doesn’t help smooth/speed, rotations. Stats are a little outdated right now due to azerite but still help for min/maxing, once you have your rotation down and the right traits.1 Like I think there are sims on either icey-veins or bloodmallet What i wrote works in general, like a rule of thumb if u arent into hardcore min-maxing. Haste is as good or better than every state for Ret. Your GCD shortens, your cooldowns shorten, more holy power, more damage. Taurseye: Holy likes haste and crit over all. Masterycan be decent depending on build. Mastery is Glimmer build’s second best stat after haste. Crit is nice but you’re pumping out so many holy shocks that you’re guaranteed to get a good amount that do crit. In short as of right now haste is the best stat for every spec since there’s little reason to run standard holy build over Glimmer. Apologies. I’m so used to standard pally build for holy I forgot. Expertise and Hit ratings are your two highest stats. They are both approximately equal, but you want to cap both of them out. You need 263 hit rating to get the 8% hit required for hit cap, and 215 expertise rating for the 6.5 % dodge reduction.

Can a ret Paladin heal?

Thinking about coming back, how is the Ret self healing? The answer is yes, their hybrid healing talent was nerfed by about 20% in pvp. I play Necrolord paladin so my survivability is better than Kyrian paladins.

The primary Kyrian paladin soulbind, Pelagos, did however get some nice survivability talents built into them however.One of them decreases damage taken by 20%, and makes it to where your movespeed cannot drop below 90% if you have been affected by a CC, lasts 5 sec.Another ability increases str and stam by 12% on proc chance, not sure how high it is.

That being said, the thing that is going to affect Paladins more than anything is that Frost Mages and Warlocks should be getting much better in pvp going into 9.1. This matters probably less in BGs, but will likely be felt more in Arenas. Overall i think Ret will still be very strong in 9.1, and if you enjoy the class you won’t be let down.

Tanking and healing vs DPS difficulty Some of you that tank or heal may have done so because DPS was too easy or, alternatively, too hard. Others may have given up on tanking and/or healing because these roles were too hard for them, or possibly too easy (but I would be surprised if it was the case for someone).

  1. For those among you that picked a role because other roles had significant difficulty differences to you, I would also be interested in knowing about the level of content you ran before making the realization. (e.g.
  2. You ran, say, M0s before realizing that healing or tanking was too hard for you, or normal raids before realizing that DPS was too easy) Personally I’m a bit of an oddball because I could feel DPS becoming harder than healing long before I actually ran the content where it could be plausible for it to be the case.

(Assuming heroic raiding is a point where DPS could potentially catch up with healing for difficulty) Nothing is harder then healing. You might say there is less to heal when the DPS are good players, but there is always healing when you reach that difficult of content where DPS is competent not to get oneshot by avoidable mechanics.

  • Healing is the most difficult by far.
  • Tanking on the other hand is 90% preparation and 10% performance.
  • It is also much harder then DPS because it is DPS while controlling an entire group at the same time, and executing your plans while adapting to group mistakes.
  • A DPS that helps with mechanics is just your average DPS, anything less is a failure, and those that compensate for others mistakes on the fly are the goto guys you take with you.

DPS can always play at the minimum required for themselves, while the better ones extend beyond that and sometimes you can find a DPS that can cover for all 3 DPS.13 Likes The way they designed these dungeons for m+, they put the weight on healers and tanks way too much.

Tanks having to kite isn’t very good design rather than having them rotate defensives and it sucks for classes that don’t have a way to escape like veng dh do. It’s a lot to keep up with if your dps is failing.6 Likes I was a moonkin when I raided endgame content in Wrath. We were in competition for server firsts for a lot of progression from Ulduar to ICC. I swapped to resto druid in Cata and competed for server first again there and got CE in Legion as a disc priest.

  • There’s a time commitment to it in order to be competitive.
  • Healing isn’t all that hard, and I often pass on loot to DPS in raids because I don’t need to be top gear heals to do my job effectively.

I can not play it, because I don’t have the time commitment. I can go in now and perform well above my ilvl as a healer. Tanking I’ve tried to do here and there, but it’s hard because of the knowledge you’re expected to have beforehand.1 Like I felt it when I tried Healing for first time and we had a hyper Tank who kept Speed Running pulling an army of stuff bouncing off the walls being out of LoS until they died because they were far ahead, good times.1 Like The run is mostly dependent on the heals, I admit that in mythic raiding, all roles have it rough to an extent. Also I know that, especially if you have competent DPS (subpar DPS is the reason why I want to change guilds, and servers along with the guild, and stop relying on pugging; I still managed 5/10H with pugs) you can more easily afford a few seconds of downtime.

  1. I also know so much that goes into healing is effectively out of the healers’ control and, as such, I don’t obsess over logs, just whether I messed up mechanics.
  2. I haven’t tanked in current content since I think 2009 on a paladin.
  3. I’ve dabbled in lower level content on alts.
  4. I just don’t like being the “leader” of the pack and feeling like I have to know everything about every dungeon in order to not get lost, etc.

As a DPS or healer I just follow the tank. I also haven’t healed current content since a few years ago, but I’m considering dipping my toe in on alts more now. Again I don’t like the pressure of keeping the team alive, especially if it’s people dying to avoidable stuff and blaming me (which I hear happens sometimes), but I do remember enjoying it when I’ve done it on lower level alts years ago.

  • For me, a lot of the time it’s the fact that as a DPS I’m just focusing on my own survival, interrupting where possible and my priority of abilities to pump out as much DPS as possible.

  • DPS in raids is harder than healing for me.

You choose the spells to use based on missing HP, mana resource, and urgency to fill it to full. DPS requires maintaining a rotation and casting at every GCD. There is also multi DoT for Shadow priest, then clipping and snapshot back in the days. I can DPS casually when perfection is not needed, but not for raid progression.

Well, did. Players ruined that with thier ill behavior. I tanked for a while. Its enjoyable, but I dont like the spotlight. People following me doesnt do it for me. I DPS since BFA because of players. I honestly dont enjoy group content at all anymore because of them. About half of the dungeons Ive run since SL dropped have seen a vote kick for seriously asinine reasons.

Petulant players who should be staying out of group content themselves cant help but come in anyway and make it miserable for everyone. No thanks. i’ll just play this expansion solo as much as possible.1 Like It really depends on the group. The people in the group set the difficulty in most cases.

Over the years I’ve played all three rolls, all are fun, all of them have their ups and downs. Those ups and downs depend heavily on the people around you. There are many things each roll has to react to. For Mythic raiding, it’s the DPS who make the difference. Tanking and healing are largely binary roles, you either do your role or you don’t.

At a certain point, improvement ceilings come from doing more DPS (as a tank or healer) or, eventually, dropping a healer so you can bring another DPS. But for DPS, the sky’s the limit. There’s ALWAYS room to improve, which means that better and better DPS have a larger impact on the raid. It’s top-notch DPS that everybody always wants.

Especially ranged DPS since you usually want a 2-to-1 ratio of range to melee. Nippyss: we vet dps players harder than anyone else I think a lot of that is there’s way mo DPS players so the vetting is harder.

  1. This is my experience for each role and it’s mostly PVE as I don’t PvP to much so I can’t comment on the PvP side.
  2. Heal: (currently my MS) healing mythic raid content including cutting edge in past expansions, Keys in past expansions up to ~20
  3. DPS: (currently my OS for my main/played on alts) dpsed mythic raid content including cutting edge in past expansions, Keys in past expansions up to ~20
  4. Tank: (played as an alt) did heroic level raiding and M+ keys up to ~12 in previous epxansions.

Out of the 3 and the level of content I played on them, healing by far is most difficult. Reason being is that I find it requires the most situational awareness and is more punishing then dps for failing mechanics/underperforming. You are required to pay attention to everything a DPS has to mechanics wise and pay attention to party/raid health frames and dispels.

  • Healing also takes more co-ordination in terms of cooldown usage then dps/tanking.
  • I don’t believe any of the 3 are easy per say, and all 3 are difficult to play well.

Damage comes in waves so you have periods of intensity followed by lulls. DPS on the other hand, always has to be doing something to contribute to damage. But that’s just my opinion. I know I’m a better healer than I was at DPS.1 Like I’ve been tanking since vanilla, I originally started as a hunter.

Part of the reason I moved over was that little nugget of advice: “If you don’t like how other people tank, do it yourself”. Now I find DPS boring. I can’t take the queue times at all, and the rotational gameplay is meh. I have a lot of fun planning routes and adjusting things on the fly. The only other thing I’m ever really willing to do is heal.

I know I’m a better healer than I was at DPS. there are no lulls when your tank is also good and understands your limits. bad tanks get both timid and overaggressive, leaving you standing around DPSing or watching the beginning of the end because you know what he just got the group into.

A good tank will keep the flow just on the edge of danger at all times. And that’s why they are so pushy about raiderio, because one dps mishap and then you cross that line and things go bad and unnecessary saves are needed.1 Like Imelie: Some of you that tank or heal may have done so because DPS was too easy or, alternatively, too hard.

  • Tanking in WoW is too easy.
  • Most of the fight mechanics in WoW fall on the melee DPS.
  • Ranged DPS have complex rotations to keep up.
  • There is a LOT of room for fail in both of these things, which keeps players engaged perfecting their skill, and when you get a good DPS you can really see that.

Healers need to be fight aware and react quickly. It’s not that hard, but it’s still more than tanks. Tanks need to stay alive and hit the taunt button at ‘X stacks’, and not fall asleep. Not falling asleep is the hardest part of that too I was almost only a tank from BC through to day 1 of BFA when I switched.

  • That’s why I’m Holy Paladin now – because we play in the melee DPS space, but also heal.
  • I need to do both their mechanics and any healer mechanics.
  • After playing GW2 and FFXIV – I needed something to keep me awake here.
  • My other major toon is a survival hunter – mostly because you have to work so hard to be ‘just as good’, and that keeps me awake in this game’s dated tab-target-slow-combat-engine (and I know FFXIV is also tab-target, but past level 70 it’s so much more dynamic and faster than here).

Sadly the simplistic nature of tanking in WoW is a WoW thing, NOT a Blizzard thing. The best tanking system in any game, in my opinion is in Overwatch. It’s the only one that beats out FFXIV tanking. It’s a pure PvP tanking system. The devs there said “we want tanks and healers, how do we convince other players to focus on the tanks without being able to use a faked gimmick like ‘threat’?” and then managed to pull it off.

Is Paladin tank easy?

How are protection paladins right now? This would be my first time leveling as a tank and I’m just curious how they are doing overall? I created a level 20 character as dark iron and did 1 dungeon and it wasn’t bad at all. Obviously as I level it will be harder.

  • Anyone know any good addons for tanking and how end game is as a tank.
  • Honestly I’m most likely going to stick with mythics keys because raiding as a tank I’m a little scared.
  • Is there rotation easier than other classes? Are other tanks better? I want honest opinions.

I tank heroic raids and M+ up to the 12-13 mark. I don’t think the class is limiting me Death knights were FOTM last season. This season is Warriors. Paladins are great at handling interupt mechanics. That’s about it. We have good party utility like spellward, sacrifice, LoH too I guess.

  • Still, better than DH or Druid tanks LUL.
  • I play a BDK main and alt this guy.
  • Prot is a lot of fun and has good damage and utility – just very different utility from DK.
  • Mitigation is good, damage is pretty good, on demand self heals to help out your healer between pulls or when you have a couple seconds during boss mechanics and fun stuff like spellwarding for bursting, bop for necrotic and final stand bubble taunt for gigapulls.

We are a middle-of-the-road tank. We have enough utility to be acceptable in heroic/mythic raiding and mythic dungeons.   3. There is no rotation but a priority system: stand in consecrate, use Judgment as quickly as possible to keep up Shield of the Righteous, and fill with Hammer of the Righteous and Avenger’s Shield.

Like most classes, mastering the class is hard. Knowing when to use cooldowns and utility abilities takes a lot of experience. I play Death Knight, Paladin, and Warrior tanks and I think the Warrior is the most “fun” – it’s far more mobile and interactive.

2 Likes Paladin might not be the easiest tank to learn (not to say it’s hard, or that any tank is hard for that matter), but it’s a great beginner’s tank because it contains all the fundamentals of tanking that you can apply to the other tanks.1 Like Paladin is in Middle of Pack for M+ and Raiding.

  • For Raiding few Guild even uses double Prot for certain boss).
  • Since u r new in tank business, paladin is one of the easiest and well rounded tank for beginner.
  • Tons of Survivability option.
  • Only thing matter is Mastering its utility which makes paladin tank Indomitable.
  • I have BDK, Vengeance and Prot Pally, ( Will Make one Warrior later), so far i am enjoying my pally best.

It has almost all utility to counter any M+ or Raiding Mechanics. If you know which trait and talents to pick up depends Affix, u can easily do any 10+ Mythic. As far as addons go, 1st get good mouseovers for your utilities (BoP, dispel, LoH, hand/light of the protector), this is smart for any class but it lets you be very efficient and quick while tanking.

  1. Use various addons to rearrange your UI, the default is terrible for tanking.
  2. Check streamers for ideas but in general you want to keep things tighter to the lower and middle of the screen.
  3. I use a mix of bartender and shadowed unit frames, and grid for raids.
  4. I also use Luxthos’s paladin weak auras and make some of my own (like a big obnoxious progress bar tracking shield of the righteous uptime for example).

Theres weakauras for just about every affix and dungeon so just spend time browsing wago io. I am still searching for a good nameplate addon I like, right now I’m using default but set to Large and its better than anything I’ve tried (but please send me recommendations tho if anyones reading this) For endgame, we’re sort of good at everything and great at nothing.

Our interrupt suite is possibly our biggest strength, followed by healing and AoE damage. Mitigation is easy. Mobility is meh. A lot of talents can be viable especially for different m+ affixes. I would say our rotation is easy, but I havent tanked with other classes this expac so I cant compare. It doesnt feel hard, and theres always something to press.

The hard part is mixing in your utility when needed, which isnt actually that hard once you get good frames/mouseovers and muscle memory. Afaik, warrior tanks are better at dps, bdk’s are better for grips/self heals/mitigation, monks are better in raids, but we seem objectively better than druids.

Ultimately, if you’re doing up to +15, prot paladin is fine, especially if you run with friends that dont care about specs of the month. Unsure about mythic raiding but we are definitely viable in heroic. Prot paladin is doing extremely well right now. Their big downside is limited uptime on active mitigation, which can be minimized through high haste and good play.

That said, when SoTR is up, you feel bulletproof (or so I did in the 16/17 keys I’ve been doing lately). And with practice, you’ll know exactly when you need to have it up. I main paladin and alt BDK and although BDK’s mobb control is #1, paladin feels like a brick freaking wall and I’ve definitely started to favor that playstyle vs.

  • Getting trucked as a BDK and then self-healing it back.
  • Warrior is OP right now, it has insane physical mitigation and is currently extremely over powered in the DPS department.
  • We’re expecting to see heavy nerfs to their DPS and when that happens they will be brought back in line with Monk/DK/Paladin.

Paladin has a very engaging ‘rotation’. It’s not a rotation per say, rather a priority system. Make sure you take the 2x judgment talent because judging reduces time on SoTR. Between using SoTR, Avengers shield, 2x judgment, consecration, and Hammer there’s always a button to press, and that is nice.

  • Judgements reduce the CD on SoTR and Hammer gives a chance to proc A free avengers shield.
  • So if you have uptime on SoTR or don’t need it you can prioritize going to shield procs for extra interrupts, and vice versa if you need extra damage mitigation.
  • It make’s the playstyle very engaging.
  • I think what makes me nervous tanking in the first time is knowing tanking mechanics when I’m so used to dps mechanics.

In the beginning at lower levels till like 80 the mechanics aren’t that bad but as you go higher up does it get worse. Like BFA is the mechanics hard to learn? Like crown control doesn’t seem difficult or mitigation bc I can heal for any reason the healer is having trouble.1 Like Use Threat Plate ( Another Modified Version of TidyPlate), Very Easy and Customizable to Every Needs, ex: Change color for Missing Threat, Setting Huge Cast Bar, Tracking of All CD’s of Mobs and Boss above Nameplate etc.1 Like Tanking is very Easy, You will learn once you started to practice it.

  1. I can’t say about Raiding, But i do tanking in M+, As per mechanic in all the M+, first thing you need to see which affix is up and what Talents you should be running to and what gear is best suited for particular Dungeon and Affix, ex: During Sanguine Affix Never Pick Consecration Slow.
  2. Need to know what kind of mobs you gonna face, If too many Melee hitting Mobs, pick BOP, if Caster mobs, Pick Spell warding.

DBM / Small Wigs is your best Friend. Plan Ahead of what utility you have and when to use them to mitigate the Boss Damages. As a paladin you have strong ability called Dispell. There are some disease / toxin ability you can dispell urself before it eats chunks of your health.

  1. my biggest complaint is holding threat on geared demon hunters.
  2. they press 2 buttons and do 40k dps and it takes me 3 globals to pull back threat on one mob.
  3. there’s a talent though you can take which is when you use bubble you aoe taunt all targets to you so I guess that is something but you gotta bubble for it.

Final stand on reaping? Thats such a massive waste. Cliph: Final stand on reaping? Thats such a massive waste. Agreed. Reaping doesn’t require bubble. Whole group just needs to LOS all the reaping mobs and just move left/right while kicking casters. Reaping is fun, but super easy.

  • Just requires a little planning.
  • Have you tried out threatplates? I actually prefer first avenger over crusader’s judgment especially for this week.
  • It really helps boost my DPS to kill all that trash faster and it procs Bulwark of Light trait constantly too.

Ret Pally: Why haste instead vers? PvE Tittle says for itself. I searched for it and didnt find why, versatility increase damage done so why rush haste? The reason is many of holy power generating abilities have cd’s which is lowered by haste. More holy power means more Templar’s Verdicts or Divine Storms. Vers, Mastery and Crit all buff their damage but don’t smooth out the rotation. Without haste the spec has a lot of dead spots unless you get really lucky with RNG. Crusade and Hammer of Wrath are very commonly taken talents so that leaves only BoW procs to fill in those gaps.5 Likes You don’t “rush” any stats. Best thing is to use a tool like Raidbots and sim your character to find what gives you the most benefit.1 Like Az talents being equal more haste will generally result in more damage as compared to the other secondary stats. Can you provide proof of this claim? With paladin’s, as always, haste is a comfort thing really. With each spec in pallies, you need a certain amount of haste to smooth the rotation. After you get to a amount of haste that fits your playstyle, it turns into a battle between crit and mastery. Ret wants haste, mastery, crit(usually as mastery increases your dmg overall and crit just makes spikes but not good for sustained) versatility Prot wants haste, mastery, vers, crit.(unless you like rng from Parry and block) Holy likes haste and crit over all. Masterycan be decent depending on build. Versatility can help each spec. But, it doesn’t help smooth/speed, rotations. Stats are a little outdated right now due to azerite but still help for min/maxing, once you have your rotation down and the right traits.1 Like I think there are sims on either icey-veins or bloodmallet What i wrote works in general, like a rule of thumb if u arent into hardcore min-maxing. Haste is as good or better than every state for Ret. Your GCD shortens, your cooldowns shorten, more holy power, more damage. Taurseye: Holy likes haste and crit over all. Masterycan be decent depending on build. Mastery is Glimmer build’s second best stat after haste. Crit is nice but you’re pumping out so many holy shocks that you’re guaranteed to get a good amount that do crit. In short as of right now haste is the best stat for every spec since there’s little reason to run standard holy build over Glimmer. Apologies. I’m so used to standard pally build for holy I forgot.
